it would be sad to see it gone.  Surely even if we can't get back into it, we can re-create it.

I agree and have thought about it. By it comes down to time. Whilst we all have good intentions it takes a lot to keep a forum site going, and user friendly and clean.

The other issue is all the historical posts that are lost. The amount of times BMWland comes up high when you are searching for answers is impressive, it would be a crying shame not to ressurect them.

Somehow, and I am not sure how, we need to know why the site is in limbo.  There's a reason that it's not back up through any of the moderators, and someone clearly has access to the site maintenance.

It's a shame the mods didn't do a email shot to all memebers asking if anyone would take it on.  Which makes me wonder why.

Even though I have moved on from bmw to Porsche, I would still contribute. And it's taken until now to stop checking the site each day.

Ironically I am sat outside BMW waiting my collegue who's car is in for work.

I agree, while we dont understands the reasons behind why the site has not come back or tech issues, the forum has a great resource of members with the skills to provide assistance from a tech point of view.

I have multiple contacts from my IT background, (DBA's, developers etc and also forum admins who we could call upon if the tech expertise are required. )

Its a shame this legacy which was created cant continue on.

Fingers crossed things are happening in the background.

It may be to do with the Probate Laws as it is an 'asset' and will therefore be impacted by them.  HMRC can get their sticky fingers into all sorts of places and take forever to resolve things.

There are all sorts of other reasons around who the 'legal' owner is from an ISP/Host point of view.

The family may also have their reasons.

It would be wonderful if just the databases could be copied and re-integrated into a new build?

Maybe good news

Perhaps a little disappointing that Matt's family will not facilitate separating the Land's data, but quite exciting news about BMWLänder.

Perhaps hope on the horizon as per PH posts, I'm finding it difficult finding somewhere to "pretend" to sell my GT

That is the 'asset' though isn't it - the information in the database is what is it's value.

Turks.

I'm no expert in this field, but wouldn't it be virtually impossible to quantify its value? Particularly in monetary terms.

Do you think Inland Revenue is actually interested?

For its members all that BMWLand data was (and could still be) invaluable.

Good to see you here as well snrbtsn.

Wasn't sure at first what you meant by 'pretending', but think I get it.
Just like I am always pretending to buy one.
One day.... Hopefully.
Still happy with yours then?

Good news about the lander, though its going to be a challenge building the database back up.

Might be worth just clarifying that it'll be a brand new site starting from scratch. None of the previous forums on BMWLand are available and getting the data off will be nigh on impossible. It's a shame to lose it as there's a wealth of experience on there but I'm not sure what else can be done.

Google cache would of been a good option if there was a risk of losing all the data.

In all honesty, i am very surprised that the site was not hosted with a 3rd party.

It might have been, but even on a 3rd party device the data is still an asset 'owned' by the family/registrar and not the ISP/hardware supplier.
