I have my car (X5 35d) booked with him for this Saturday. So I am sure he is still remapping X5s.

Hi Jason,

I have a 2012  X5 40d  306hp.  I recently purchased a Racechip. My ultimate goal was not outright performance gain, but improved MPG and retention of drivability.  I have found the Racechip does not  deliver any real improvement in MPG and whilst midrange is significantly improved, the drivability at low speed is worse particularly on part throttle from a standstill.  I am returning the Racechip.

Is this something you would be able to address for me with a remap and how much would you charge?

Thanks Jason

Rich

Any official installer near Bristol, also interested to know how this affects AUC warranty, can it be ‘seen’ if in for routine servicing??

Based on what others have had happen, then yes it can.  Jason may have a new trick, but earlier ones when found resulted in the code being overwritten and the warranty being torn up.  That was a couple of years back though.

BMW servers know what codes exist on each car and keep a record.  If something called the checksum doesn’t match then the system assumes there is an issue and rewrites the map back to the last known good one.  Friendly of them!  >:(

If the checksum stays intact then a map ought to be invisible......and that may be the latest trick  :D

Hmmmm so maybe it needs to be one of those products with a 'switch' type box which allows you to return the car to the stock map if required, that way it could be returned to stock prior to service then 'remapped' afterwards??

Am I on the right lines with that thought process?

Being do a bit of research re X6M tuning, and while BMW might not be able to see if the car had been remapped once it has been removed, they will certainly be able to see that the the stock parameters have been exceeded i.e. boost pressure. Depends if they decide that this has affected the car if a claim is made.
As an aside, my wifes new 2 series coupe can send data to BMW without being in a garage, as I guess all new BMWs can. A remap would soon be picked up.

I am new to this forum as came across it looking for recommendations for a good tuning company. Jason has just done my X5 4.0d and it is so much better to drive, really pleased with the result and a genuinely knowledgeable guy. I can certainly recommend him and the team at BW Chiptune.
