What area is this in?

East London/Newham/Ilford Essex. It's just worrying that they are so easily able to steal these parts and thar the police are aware. I've got my Clifford proximity sensor on mine, have epoxy trained the screw heads inside the mirror, so they won't be able to take them off without setting off the alarm. Still worrying though.

I asked about that but unfortunately we can get prosecuted for hurting someone or in case a child touches it. We should set some type of petition to BMW to stop selling bits for mirrors unless the buyer has a genuine chassis number. As BMW are fuelling the thefts due to their obscene prices. The amount that has been stolen on sure the authorities are aware of what is going on, the question is what are they doing to stop all this.

i have too been a victim of this horrid crime...both wing mirrors stolen from my X5....I live in east london....

There were some on ebay yesterday not sure which type but where E53 items.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune

I am now concerned that when they get replaced....is there anything i can do to make it " not so easy" to steal...aparently they are very easy to remove so shame on BMW , esp when they charge so much to replace them.....

Read this thread with interest. I live in East London too and the 3 road after mine, all have BMW E53 X5s with both sides mirrors missing. For this reason alone, I park my car a mile away in a mates garage and pay him 60 a month. I ride there, and ride back to park/collect the car.

Id rather give him 600 for a year for overnight parking then spend 1200 on each one.

To my point now. Has anyone found a way of securing them further? I was told to spot weld the screws, but that wont stop the scumbags from snapping the mirrors off.

I had an idea to completely cut off the wires as mine are manual unfolding, and finding a male/female clip to secure and remove them when I need.

Any feedback is appreciated folks.

I used 'Smartwater' on mine and labelled the car to warn potential thieves that the system was installed. A British invention that uses a 'DNA Like' chemical system which makes every system supplied unique. Well thought of by the Police and some insurers.

You can get it for cars, bikes (came by defalt on my Honda VFR800 VTEC), scooters as well as for homes and jewellery.

You simply dab it on a rough surface and it cannot be removed. Shows up under UV light. The E53 mirrors have rough surfaced plastic parts (unpainted bits) which will take up the coating.

I use it on all sorts of things and the bright yellow warning label does I hope mean thieves go someplace else!

Details on smartwater dot com. It's not cheap, but certainly a lot cheaper than new mirrors!!

That's exactly what my FIL was given when his Merc was stolen...

The more publicity this stuff gets the better. Don't forget to register your bottle of smart water too!
