Aren't new E70 cars coming with it fitted from the factory now if 20" wheels are fitted?  Would that not be of some use as 'leverage'?

Good point Richard. When I visited the dealer I actually pointed that out as we walked past a new X5 in the showroom on the way to view my car.

@Storm x5  Well done! I presume you have 20s? Do you know if BMW only fit film on new cars if 20s are specified?

For the benefit of anyone researching the issue, I have 19s and film fitted to the wheel arches and sills but not to the door. Thus far no chipping at all. Some photos on the net of cars with 20s show damage to the door as well as to the sills and arches.

Yes 20's

Not sure about film fitted only if 20s specified.

BMW are also doing my front and rear doors btw....

Hi,

Recently had mine painted / "filmed" under warranty,
My dealer pointed it out to me and organized the warranty work without any prompt.
No cost for hire / courtesy car and had it for 5 days.

Cheers,,

Only downside of the film (which mine had factory fitted as standard) is that it looks like the car has a scratch on it where the film "ends".

Guess it is better than chips everywhere.

John Clark in Dundee,,
Painting and film applied by bodyshop,
Think their body shop is serviced from Dundee Audi (part of John Clark group)
Can't fault them, all pre-sale, sale and post sale dealings have been effortless,,,
