I'm still debating winter wheels, I probably need to hurry up given it's November...  I'm very anal about upkeep of cars, my neighbours probably already think I'm mental but next to property for most of us a car is the next largest purchase we make, so looking after it and protecting it's future value seems natural to me.

But winter wheels just seem a bit extreme for someone living in Hampshire and more often than not sits in traffic the surrounding motorways.  Whatever next, buy a cheaper car for winter use, keep the X5 garaged from Dec to Mar :)

The question is, why do BMW choose this diamond cut finish for consumer use on practical everyday cars???  They look fantastic, but remember the same issues when they used this finish on the 19in wheels fitted to the E46 M3.

Both of my daily cars and mrs' previous car had diamond cut wheels and we never had any problems, it just seems to be bmw and I remember the e46 m3 19s had the same problem

Those E46 19s were a nightmare!  I'm fairly sure it was stone chips causing the problems, when they went out of warranty I recall paying what seemed like an eye watering amount of money to have them re-cut.

Now you mention it, BMW don't seem to have a good track record with alloy wheels full stop!  The 19's on the E46 M3 with corrosion, the 19's on the E92 335i cracking (+ the initial denial, blaming owners!!) and now the E70 20's with corrosion.  F$%^&k I seem to of been affected by all of them.

Do you know what perhaps it's time for a brand change on the next car, Mercedes perhaps?  I kind of vowed never to get a Audi again after experiences with an S4 and TT V6.  God I still have nightmares about the TT and that bloody DSG gearbox!

Likewise, Berry Heathrow have agreed to replace all wheels even though 2 were not marked, unfortunately it will be after the New Year before they arrive. Now to tackle the paintwork pitting on the rear arches, its another warranty issue BMW usually resolve with a repaint and plastic covers over the bottom of the back door and the wheel arch.

Mercedes?  No chance.  Their Dealers are as arrogant as Audi and their customer service about par with Landrover!

I see some are already on another set as I too had mine replaced last year but they are corroding again. Has anyone asked their dealer for another 20" wheel as a better replacement?

Cheers

I was in BMW Aberdeen yesterday getting new alloys ordered and was chatting to the guy about them. He told me that BMW have just changed supplier and the new wheels “should” now be sorted. Time will tell but I should get a new supplier set. Shame it takes 8 weeks to get them!!
Hope what he is saying is the truth mind you!!
