In Car Video Recorders
Re: In Car Video Recorders
See this web site for good info - very good evaluations of cameras http://dashcamtalk.com/
Issue of constant feed for parking mode recording can be dealt with by fitting a power feed meter which cuts supply to camera if voltage / amps fall below a defined limit. They are usually available with top end units ( http://www.blackvue.co.uk/index.php/online-shop/blackvue-products/power-magic-electric-power-controller-detail ) there are videos on YOUTUBE showing fitting.
I was going to go for latest blackvue, but reports of overheating a bit of a concern.
http://dashcamtalk.com/blackvue-dr400g-hd-ii/ :'(
Have seen a couple of cheapies from the land of opportunity, which I think I will go for and perhaps get the next generation of blackvue once overheating sorted http://forum.dashcamtalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=88.
They are a bit bigger and not so discreet, but ya gets what ya pay for :cigar:

Re: In Car Video Recorders
The two you listed do not specify the resolution, they only say HD in the description so be wary of what you are buying.
As for the 400 getting hot, the cams do get hot and the micro SD cards get hotter as the HD video requires a class 10 card to avoid errors.
There is a battery pack specifically for cars that cut their power feed when the ignition is off. It charges and powers the camera under normal use then when park it powers the cameras for parking mode. http://www.blackvue.com.sg/tpower-c-battery-pack.html I am waiting for a price on this at the moment from the guys that I got the camera from.

This is a good item, apparantly will work on any dash cam. Got me thinking my strategy again :hmmm:

He (the luckiest guy alive) doesn't seem to have had a seatbelt on. This maybe the reason he survives by not being restrained in the drivers seat

I got a cheapie off snipez and to be honest it's better than I expected. Although I do intend to upgrade to a better system sometime in the new year that will be hard wired in and also cover the car while parked.

Re: In Car Video Recorders
Interesting thread.
I have just ordered one of these last week:
http://dashcamtalk.com/itronics-itb-100hd/
Seems to be pretty good spec. Can be had for around £110 on the bay from S. Korea (+duty risk!)
Has very similar specs to the Blackvue.

Re: In Car Video Recorders
Hmmm, my Blackvue cameras don't overheat. It will be interesting to see how they perform when we (eventually) get a few days of decent sunshine; but I would have thought UK installs were pretty much safe from any such issue?!
Re: In Car Video Recorders
This dashcam footage here (Warning, disturbing images) from Moscow yesterday is impressive though.
One VERY lucky driver, though the crew of the plane weren't so lucky.

Due to sh1t1e Internet connection, unable to view! >:( one of the issues of living in the country side. I have a satellite system for Internet that costs us the best part of £60 a month for 1mb of download speed. BT keep promising the fibre optic will be available soon. Only been saying that for the last few years!

Re: In Car Video Recorders
Frustrating!!
BT have fibred this area, BUT because in 1999 the phone lines for this Close were routed to the 'wrong street box' we are linked to the lines for an industrial estate. BT are not going to fibre it as they make far more money on ISDN and Ethernet lines into businesses. No alternative as Vermin Media have refused to cable the road (13 homes) too.
The BT fibre cabs are actually closer than the one we're connected to, but in the opposite direction....
Even my Parents in Law in rural Wales have a 10Mb (in both directions) microwave link. This country can be so backward sometimes.

How about this one then Don? Someone near me installed this one as the wired option was too unreliable.
