Damage from hailstones
Re: Damage from hailstones
Flippin heck - very sorry to hear about your horrific ordeal. Glad you're all okay, and hope the car gets sorted as new or replaced..

Damage from hailstones
Update.....
Picked the car up today and after a thorough inspection I'm pleased to say I think they've swapped the car for a new one.......the job really is that good
Not a mark on in it and both the exterior and interior are like new. I know that's what we should expect but not all garages pay attention to the fine detail.
The fact is that aside from a couple of panels being replaced the damage was cosmetic, however as a printer by trade with a keen eye for colour (and fine detail) I'm astounded by the finish.

On a side note I've sold my Porsche and now own a 335i Cab. It's an 11 plate ex BMW Management car. DCT, great spec and brilliant to drive......however I must buy a cap otherwise my poor bald head will burn in the summer!

When the cost outweighs the fun it's time to move on.
I've been lucky enough to have had three Porsche's and simply fancied a change. If I were a wealthy man (like your good self
), or have 5 children......I would look at a Gen 2 GTS or even a 991 C2S, but for a car that did 1500 miles in the last 6 months I couldn't justify the sort of money required.
The 335i is a good compromise. I don't mind getting dirty or putting the miles on it, it's quick enough and very comfortable to drive. Has a brilliant gearbox (better than the PDK in either a 997 or 991 in my opinion - and yes, I've driven both
), has the latest toys and it doesn't have a 'wide boy' image (which I think the Porsche does if I'm honest
)
And even though I can see my 997 on a site for sale I can honestly say it's the first car in a long time I haven't missed since it went. I know someone will have a great buy and no doubt have lots of fun, and if it were your first 911 what a great way to start off your Porsche experience. It was perfect bar one or two stone chips - however, for me I'd had enough.
Anyway, onwards and upwards and I'm looking forward to the good weather so I can hear that famous turbo charged BMW straight 6 going for it

Re: Damage from hailstones
Glad E70 sorted.
Shame the 997 has gone..........how time flies.
Despite many 993 owners snubbing it I found the 996 one of nicest everyday useable cars I have ever driven. Unlike others I forgive Porsche for lack of air cooling & 987 Boxster eyes (until 2001).
991 with remote steering, stop start technology & significant alluminium has better mpg than equivalent 997 but I wonder if it has as much character or fun factor as 997.

Don't be mislead with the hype about the steering on the 991 - it's brilliant and I doubt if we could tell the difference to be honest.
Sure the 996 is good however the 997 is a better car. Up to date and a much nicer place to live in with better technology (albeit dated).
There is no doubt they are very fast and when you take them on track you appreciate just how good they are, they are planted and lots of fun. However there's a lot of fast cars on the road and a lot of cheaper machinery will keep up with them.
As you say though AW8, how time flies.......
However......

Re: Damage from hailstones
Glad you've finally got it back.....looks superb. Much better paint finish by the looks of your piccies. Soooooo much better than factory, and no Teflon coating to pimp the gloss either...

Huge congrats on both the return of the X (looks superb) and the new acquisition.

Re: Damage from hailstones
Does look awesome - and great colour! Really glad it's been properly sorted.

I'm no expert but the plate on the car looks like a 61 to me ::)
Be interested to see what you think about it after your 535, more pics please

Sorry, you're correct it's a 61!
The problem with comparing it against the 535 is they are totally different engines and wonderful in their own right.
The 335 feels smaller and more nimble and the gearbox is fantastic. The diesel has a different feel when you accelerate and possibly feels as fast.
I start a new thread on the 335 with more photos.
