Ignore BMW UK and just go direct to the Dealer. The job will take anything from 45 minutes to 24 hours depending upon the state of the other patches that may or may not have been applied as well.
My X6 needed a whole raft of patches which took approx 24 hours as they had to leave the car connected to the BMW servers overnight.
Others on here were in and out in under an hour.

Yeah, that's probably favourite. Working for myself makes it a bit tricky to find the time sometimes but it has to be done. I'll get on the blower as soon as I can.

Ok, so it turns out the update was done last year when this issue first came to light. Presumably, BMW UK indicated my car needed to be done based purely on its build date and the person on the hotline number didn't have immediate access to a specific record of whether the update had already been applied. Anyhoo, job jobbed

Have your obd port disabled. Problem solved.

Just had another invite to get mine done again! Seems that BMW GB and the Dealer network definitely aren't talking to each other!
Getting the OBD port disabled doesn't help unless it can be quickly enabled again. Mine being under warranty they might get 'difficult' about it..

I had mine disabled through a Viper CAN BUS alarm so the OBD is disabled the moment the alarm is armed.
I'd rather the dealer get shirty about the port being disabled than find an empty space on my drive one morning.
You could just cut a wire and put a fuse in line with the cut wire, then remove the fuse and hey presto!
Anyone with basic wiring skills could do that.

This security update is useless, it is possible to start engine without key, whole operation takes max 2 minutes.

And one seriously hopes that is all you say on it. The security update was nothing to do with the key.
