Had a go at fitting the new carrier today that I bought from a dealer. Getting it all back together to find that the lock does not line up for the Allen bolt (so can't secure it) and there is a gap between it and the handle. Have the stealers sold me a duffer as nothing I see can be done to adjust the length of the unit!

I too had this on mine.
Remove the lock barrel and undo this nut (do not remove nut) and whilst pushing firmly on the door handle retighten the nut , refit lock barrel , door handle will now be flush with lock barrel
HTH.

mine was like that too. the allen bolt was a real struggle to catch the thread to pull the lock in.

No need to remove interior door panel , just follow the first few pics of Sanjs` how-to to access the allen key bolt to remove the lock barrel. Pic 8 shows location of allen key bolt.

Guess bloody what wife comes in last night door won't open >:( ahhhhhhhhh looks like a strip down now I must admit it was never 100% when I bought it.The seller left the old carriage in so I could see it I can only assume his mate who works in a garage was a tit.

Where's the best place to get a genuine carrier apart from the obvious dealer I reckon they fitted a cheap and nasty one.

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN
If it rains...it piddles it down.
Passenger side front...no resistance. Locks by remote and inside handle....guess this is the symptoms of a duff carrier? Strange that it's passenger side and for once it's no mine...it's the wifes.
Think I'll go genuine and the part number is 51218243615.....does this correct?
Ebay ha a mixture of genuine and copies. Ebay BMW Direct has it for £78.41 +£1.99 packing, what's the likely price over the counter...anyone?

Two options, phone Cotswolds on 01432 375563 and ask for the same part number and mention the forum (you should get a discount, possibly free delivery).
The other is
this part on eBay.
But check you need one for sure first!

Can't think what else I would need? The door lock and unlocks, the inner handle works the mechanism and the door shuts and stays shut. It has been a bit stiff before today
If it isn't that hinge bit on the carrier then what else would it be...unless the cable has jumped off the lock...has that ever happend before?
That 2nd hand one looks cheap enough so if I got it could it be serviced (oiled) before install to give it long life?
