Do u need it though till next winter:)

Hi guys would this do the job ?

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/quasar-single ... -kit-l26bk

If not could you give me a link to one.

Thanks :)

PS after actually reading back a bit I can see what I need to get so I am sorry for my laziness there

When opening the door or any other slight movement in the car it seems to start the heater for around 40 seconds but after thus shuts down.

Is this normal ?

Thanks

you need to read more  8) there are links to the remotes too in the posts..

you need something like this, which has a controlable latching capability to run the heater for a predetermined time.

I was re-visiting these posts & wondering about other possibilities.  The following is interesting.

I haven't read this entire thread, but am I right in thinking only diesels have this option?

Typically yes.  It was standard on diesel E53s and an (expensive) option on all petrol models as well as the E70/71 and F models.

Shame, I have reverse option to get the car cooler, but not the warm option.

But you can enable it on the E53 with very little input - which is what this thread is all about.  The hardware is already there on the diesels.

Parking heater remote start- Enabling

Post by AugustYn » Sat Nov 20, 2021 11:38 pm

Greetings to all of you.
I found this forum trying to find any infos on how to install a remote control system for the webasto unit in my e53 3.0d year 2006.

None of the suggested kits are available any more … and i’ve read every one of the 39 pages this thread has.

Any idea regarding what kit should work for my car?

Thank you in advance.
Cheers

Parking heater remote start- Enabling

Hello and :hi:

As you have found, the kits have been end of life for many years. Apart from trawling the web for second hand modules (use RealOEM to find the part numbers) and Telestart remotes to go with them, you are going to be into home brew manufacture now.

You’ll need a remote module that can switch power (preferably via a fused relay) onto the correct pin (details are in this thread) on the Webasto. Without the proper modules though there is no monitoring of fuel level or battery state meaning you either need to check it the night before and/or use a timer circuit to shut the Webasto down again after 15 minutes or so.

Worth also making sure that your Webasto still works properly as many now don’t needing new PCBs or glowplugs. With colder weather coming you’ll hear the unit ticking away to itself and sounding like a small jet engine when running. :)

Parking heater remote start- Enabling

Post by AugustYn » Sun Nov 21, 2021 10:24 am

What can i say, i joined the X world a little bit late than others.

Thank you for your reply.

My webasto unit works, had it tested with ISTA, everything seemed to be ok. Also, now that the weather is relatively cold, at least in the mornings, webasto starts along with the engine and works. I can hear it, and smell the exhaust fumes after several minutes after starting. So everything works as it should.

I got from a friend a remote control kit, almost complete. Harness, antenna, module … etc. but no actual remote. It’s a Telestart T80 kit. And i cannot find a T80 remote to install the original kit.

Therefore, i started looking for some aftermarket options, after seeing a video on youtube where a guy was talking about the Thermotop Z unit in his e53, and he said he installed a aftermarket RF unit and he used the remote to start the heater.

After seeing that video, i found thit thread, read every single page, and tried to look for the modules wich were mentioned in the posts. And, of course, none were available any more.

I see several kits available on youtube, but i am not sure wich could do the trick - start the webasto from a remote.

That is why i was hoping maybe someone could point me to a kit - from the ones available now 😁😁😁

For example, could this little kit do the trick for me?

It could do. The contacts look right No one has updated the thread since 2016 and many of those members have left the BMW family on that generation X5s (I sold mine 10 years ago!), which is why you may struggle to find an answer about current kits that work

Parking heater remote start- Enabling

Post by stormbird » Sun Jul 23, 2023 3:11 pm

Very glad this forum topic is still going! I have the X5 E53 3.0D Sport 2006 and I have the 2 valves underneath the Webasto with an unattached 2 wire connector tucked away there also. My Webasto is not working at all so I am going to replace it with a good used one from ebay before attempting this parking cabin heater remote function. I do have the correct a/c control panel 6972164 fitted (superceded 6927899). Having read the full 39 pages there does seem to be some variation in what models can get this functionality and what can't, including a suggestion to replace pcb with that from an E39 webasto. My current Top Z/C Webasto is marked 9003552B and BMW 64.12 6918942 - 03. Cannot find any on ebay with identical markings. My question is which would be the best model to replace it with? Or rather, can an owner with successful function upgrade please tell me the exact markings on his Webasto?
