Also how are you finding the mpg and what is your driving style? All the press and BMW blurb talks of improved economy but the demo I have had out twice has always been reading about 27 mpg, this has also been the figures showing when I drove it so seems pretty representative. That was a 30d. Also Kenniff I think you had an E70 35d, what mpg were you getting from it by way of comparison?

well I really haven't driven it far enough to get much of an idea on mpg, but for example the other day I was at Bluewater and I reset on leaving. Its a 20 minute journey home on motorway and 2 lane each way A road. Drove at 80 on M way and 55 on A road on got 33 mpg. That's with a roof rack on.
Otherwise my driving has been pootling about locally. My typical year's driving is 95% of the time local dad's taxi service and 5% (4 times a year) driving to Scotland and back on the M way. My old car used to get about 20mpg locally and about 30 on the Mway runs (usually driving at 85 ish on the mway). However, last time I did the long run I had 2 bikes on the roof and got 20mpg on the long run! Aero matters so much more once the speed rises above 70. Will let you know how the mpg goes over time.
The car is now 3 weeks old and I haven't even washed it yet (it doesn't look dirty), and there are no marks associated with the air scoop things.

3 weeks old and haven't washed it yet , shame on you man
Would be interested in hearing the round town mpg, my 35d does probably 22 approx with a lot of town/school run driving with a few longer main road blasts. if I was changing I would like to improve on that but it doesn't seem likely the difference is anywhere near what BMW claim it to be.

Now 2 months old and i STILL haven't washed it
It doesn't look dirty, honest, and no issue with "roosters" from those holes in the side. Mind you, all the streets are paved with gold down here and it hasn't stopped raining for about a month.
I reckon I've used about a tank of petrol since I've had the car, which is a testament more to the low mileage than the fuel consumption. That said, it's definitely more frugal than the previous model. I'm getting about 23 mpg on driving where the longest drive is never more than 20 minutes and usually stop / start crawling.

That's good going to not wash it for that long & its still looks good, mine in le mans blue got dirty very quickly but I must admit it frustrating this time of year as you cant keep a car looking clean for more than two minutes!

A quick update on mpg:
I filled up last Saturday and according to the on board computer had achieved 28 mpg since the last fill. As this is all local journeys I was quite happy with that.
I then went on a day trip to Brighton with a full car but no roof rack and on the round trip we got 35 mpg. That was not exceeding 80 mph.
In short, although it's still a brick on wheels, the mpg is definitely improved from the E70.
