I would be inclined to agree as a rule audis don't make exciting cars to drive

I used to quite like mrs v6 mk 2 TT but after we bought the Porsche you realise how un-exciting they are actually to drive enthusiastically. It's a nice place to be and comfortable (I've clearly not got the super million way adjustment seats in the Porsche set up right yet after 18monyhs ) but I'd say the TT was more comfortable

The ride on the Porsche, despite having 20" rims, is far better than the TT

The RS4 is a good car but you have to work with it as opposed to assuming you can just hoon it everywhere. The trick rear diff takes some getting used to but does eliminate understeer and bring on oversteer to help get around the corners. The steering is shocking really but to be fair I have two of the best handling / feel cars available so I am spoilt so I would imagine most drivers wouldn't complain too much.

The r8 is a lovely car but if I wanted that class if car I hate to say it but it would be a 911 gt3 and I hate Porsche badges.

The rest of the Audi range leaves me cold but then to be fair so do the new F range of BMWs, including the M5/6.

I appreciate your feedback around the RS4 & I agree you have two other motors that are renowned for their steering/handling & I agree if it was my money I would plump for the 911 GT3 over the R8 for sure.

The TT's steering is laughably light & it's very hard to position the car with confidence but I do like its straight line punch but its dynamic flaws raise their head as soon as you get to a corner unfortunetely.

I have to admit given the choice of a bog standard Audi or bmw say 3 series/A4 I would go with the bmw everytime.

But your talking about a totally different cars here.  A derv burner Audi A4 or 3 Series / 5 Series are never going to be exciting, they're all much of a muchness.  I can't tell the difference between the A4 I have now & the 320d which has just been returned.  The only way to get a fun drive is to buy a hot hatch.

The C2S is the best car I've owned... fantastic ride on 20's & pure premier class, but that's a drivers car.  Agree on the R8, wouldn't consider that at all.

I think the game changes when you move up to 3.0 / 6 diesels whether it be BMW / Merc or Audi...... that 'six' is really noticable mid-range in diesels, you just don't get it with 2.0 / 4's TDI which run out of grunt.

Really unsure what to go for when the E70 goes back, uninspired by all BMW's, don't like the Cayenne / ML & certainly won't look at RRS being 25K more expensive then the last model!

I was as much replying to lee4.8s comments about audis not being that fun to drive.

I thought the E9x BMW was a much more rewarding drive than the equivalent audi.

Agree - The E9's map really well also.  Can't say the same about the BMW box though. I have fond memories of my 335d

They sure do. I mapped both of my twin turbo diesels. Didn't have a major problem with the gearbox to be honest.

I'll take the TT for a run this weekend & give it a once over.    Having just come out of a bog standard 3 Series 320d, for company use..... i can say there really is no difference between the  A4 & 3 series. The A4  is a little more comfortable with non RFT - but after 1K miles I'm still learning about this car & will be for the next 24 months.    Another deciding factor for me with the Audi is that I didn't want two of the same marque on my driveway, X5 & yet another 3 series.

Your car history is spot on & i am a big fan of your old 335d as I've always liked those & I agree it's nice to mix things up & try different manufacturers but I truly love the way the TT looks & it's interior but you won't find much to like about the way it drives that I know for sure or maybe i am too much of a RWD fan & i can't give a FWD biased 4WD system any respect.

If your TT is FWD then I genuinely think it is a better bet than the Quattro system they use because that is a pretty poor effort imo it's hopeless.

I owned two XR4x4's back in the day & their 4WD systems were fine but for some reason the TT behaves nothing like a 4WD it just falls into the predictable understeer FWD trait & as you can gather it just gets my back up.

I agree

The Quattro ( should be small 'q') is really not a Quattro. It is predominately fwd which has the ability to be awd

I had a few moments in my old S3 (2001) which is the same type of Quattro as the TT. Basically you would loose grip at the front so it would then chuck power to the back and give you unpredictable over steer. Very nasty.
