Buy from dealer, safest bet. Worth the premium and you get the warranty

I cant see anything wrong with looking at Auctions.......you just need to select the right days........best to look at the ex-lease vehicles as these companies tend to keep them serviced etc and often dont have sales outlets.
You have to think when looking at 2nd hand dealers.....where did the vehicle come from.......probably an auction. If its one of the more expensive cars they are selling then its unlikely its a part exchange vehicle.

I bought a 3.0i at auction (BCA Nottingham). BMW Cotswold certainly honoured the remaining warranty period. I had a new sat nav screen, steering rack oil leak fixed, misfire cured and seat belt slow retraction fixed. If I ever end up back in the UK I'd have no reservation about buying a BMW at BCA again.

Hi just had a look at advert says 24500, no pan roof not sure if you want or need this option, is lower tax band sounds good but worth checking, like the colour and the M sport has colour coded /painted arches and bumpers.
Downside the m sport generally doesn't have the running boards, worth thinking about depending on who need to getting out of car, as my wife uses them to get in or you could be carrying a set of steps.

As for what over checks to do assuming you mean admin wise same as any other used car purchase..........HPI a must as is checking all numbers match V5c, MOT , service stamps invoices & of course check car itself for matching numbers to paperwork
As for checking the car I apply same rules for every car regadless of make/model....... Check everything you can for damage, individual function & condition. Pay attention to body panel condition & even gaps, don't forget to look at tyres brakes & a quick look underneath if able just in case of obvious visible danmage.
Apologies if above is obvious or not specific enough but you asked a very open question.
Good Luck.
