Fuel consumption is not that much better than the V8, so not sure on why you would want a 3.0i though.

Drive both - the petrol will feel slower because of the lower torque. And you'll get annoyed at the low fuel consumption.
Ref Xenons, it has em (look at the switch and no adjuster for height there).
Blow in should be the least of your concerns. Nice that someone has tried to repair that. Besides there are guys on the forum who can work wonders with a detail.
Looks to be missing the nappa, folding exterior mirrors, rear heated seats, heated steering wheel (plus other less important extras, no doubt).
The rest we can help you 'improve'!

I do agree somewhat with the above comments, have a drive in a 3litre before you commit, it does like to be pushed a bit, and I think you will get fed up of having to do that every time you want to have a spirited drive.
I have the 4.6is with LPG fitted, and I must say that for a car that weighs probably 2.5 ton it certainly shifts, and I get very reasonable mpg as well.

Why would you get annoyed with low fuel consumption? I would be more worried about high one :pokey:

So if diesels are good for business, why go petrol? Unless your mileage is low of course? Just curious, not critical..
I'm not convinced the 3.0i is the 'Best X5' at all, sorry.
Road test a 3.0i before you commit. I found it underwhelming and needing to be pushed to make it go well. If petrol is the choice then the V8 is much better. If torque is what you want, go diesel (3.0D is the same as 4.8 V8 petrol) but without the fuel bill (or the soundtrack..
)
Not wishing this to sound snobbish in any way because it's not meant to be, but the 3.0i is the 'poor man's X5' and that was its market position. The 'Sport' trim is better though..just.

I second this aswell, most magazines favour the 3.0d & suggest that the 3.0 petrol struggles with the gerth of the x5 & what has been said the fuel economy suffers as a result, X5 sport is talking alot of sense & he is our guru with his dedication to this site

Thanks again guys, some very valid points.
Here's my (latest) view on things. My original decision was to buy a diesel but consistently I've had advice saying they can be problematic - turbos being one example.
I totally understand your view of a 3.0 being underpowered however don't forget I owned a LPG converted 3.0 Sport for almost 5 years. Being gas converted it had even less power than a normal 3.0 but guess what? I loved it!!
I'm one of life's cruisers and putting my foot down for raw pace isn't a huge thing for me. Sounds ridiculous after owning a 750 Li but seriously, I was happy with my X5.
There will be lots of twists and turns yet, not least the fact there are very few 3.0 X5's available at the moment.
The story continues....

Anyone had dealings with Autobay?
Looking at his X5 tomorrow. Long way to travel, he assures me it's immaculate. Missing BMW badge on rear wheel doesn't fill me with confidence!!
And do BMW do 2.5 diesel engines?

Not on an E53 or E70 they don't! That was the 5-cyl engine used by Landrover for a while, not sure if there were any 2.5TDI engines way back when.....
The E70 engine should be a 2993cc M57N2 variant (6-cyl) unit mated to a ZF 6sp transmission.
Doesn't exactly inspire confidence if they don't even know what they're selling!!

Mmhhh. Their feedback is bloody impressive though!
To travel or not to travel, that is the question!

This is an SE model with the alloy upgrade and the Dynamic Pack (usually those alloys mean that - learnt from 535d).
The VED will be in the highest bracket as it was one of the earliest. And it has no SatNav, that's a small screen.
Wait for a better one, this will prove to be harder to sell on in future.

Ladies and Gents, the X has been bought!!
BMW X5, 3.0i SPORT, FSH, Heated Seats, COMMS PACK, 49k, 3 Owners, Mettalic Grey.
In terrific condition with a couple of minor jobs that need doing.
The right speaker doesnt work and theres a couple of supermarket dents that need removing >:(
Can anyone recommend a Audio guy in the Midlands who could sort the speaker?
A poor mans X5 for a poor man
Pics to follow!!
