[quote=""brewer""]Got the S5 for £84 from ECP last week - decent price as standard anyway, but I was able to get a further 25% off.

They have a 25% off sale on many items right now, but its limited to 15% off batteries. However by using the code "MBCLUB25", which was "donated" by my cousin who is a member of the Mercedes Benz owners club I was able to bag the bargain price above.

Hope this is useful to other forum members!

Bosch Battery (S5 Battery 019 5 Year Guarantee)
Part No.: 444770198
Web Price: £112.74
Forum Price: £84.56

100A and 830CCA.
Its still ~£120-£130 most places.

I don't like you anymore, there website only showed S3 as compatable, when I asked in store for the S5 they said they don't do one. Oh well stick with the S3 now.

OK, I've changed the battery today and i know this has probably been done before but i thought I'd take a few pics as there seems to be a lot of un-certainty as to what will fit both physically and electrically etc

This is the 'dome' you need to remove

Image
This is the original battery still in place

Image
Both batteries together so you can see there is no difference in physical size

The new battery fitted

All in it took me 15 mins so not a major job, i just hope it helps a little. :D

At this price (thank you Brewer), and fact still on original OEM battery, it might be worth buying an S5 even if not yet required.

Question, would the battery be fine being dry stored until needed? If so then what... just give it a full charge with the CTEK (or whatever you have) prior to fitting... sound right?

Yup, sounds perfect to me

As long as it's stored in a cool, dry environment it should lose very little charge over the months. Disconnected these things hold their charge for a very long time. A gentle recharge on a CTEK (or similar slow charger) will bring it back to full readiness in short order.

Just ordered the S5 - says not compatible with my car, but is right size - just bigger amps and cca. Cheers for the discount code, bought an air filter and pollen filter with 25% off too!

Yep - sorry Jig. The website is pretty rigid and locked down to OEM spec. compatible batteries.

I went in via: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Audi_ ... 5d3&000020

So, I used the Audi A4 3.0D to get to the right battery. OEM spec. says 90Ah (i.e. the S3), whereas the S5 is 100Ah. As with all bosch models, they each come in different Ah and CCA specs and different physical sizes too (i.e. the S5 comes in various sizes). However the link above will take you to the correct one for the X5.

Marry Christmas y'all - a nicely wrapped battery makes a lovely pressie!! Though its Bloody heavy!

Battery,Bosch Silver plus

Just an update I had to get the new silver battery swapped, after just 2 months the health level on the battery was totally gone, battery was running dead within 3 days even after use.

Are all your other electrics OK? Any unusual power draw, or just a bad battery (which does happen unfortunately)?

I strongly believe it was just a duff battery, all seems good now but time will tell.

You are the third one I have heard with the battery failing. Not too great an advert though.
