You will have if it's diesel but there is a massive thread all about enabling aux heating, seems hit and miss and I was in contact with webasto Doncaster about it, however I've had my hours changed at work so I don't get chance to follow up on it now.

Thanks for that think mine has a glow plug fault , mine did not have this as an extra but if it doesn't work will Bmw fix it ??

Mike...reading all his lot makes me think golw plug for the heater too....i'll txt you tomorrow once i check header tank flow....

Not sure Andy, if it's getting hot I don't think it's the glow plug.

I'd run unwire to pin 1 and see if it runs continuously or still turns off after a few minutes.

Anyone know if you can strip the heater sufficiently in-situ to allow de-coking and glow pin replacement?

when i had my problems with the heater, i also used to get the glow plug error via the scanner.
just changing the circuit-board cured this without ever changing the glow plug and it works good now.
i am of the opinion that because in the faulty mode of only firing up for around a minute before shutting down - the car diagnostics just makes a wrong assumption that the glow plug failed when in fact it was the wrong circuit board trying to be enabled with obc park heating control.
thats just my experience and dont want to see people wasting good money changing perfectly ok glow plugs trying to sort this problem.

I've used the scanner to set and test the aux heater and all works perfectly well so thank you for the instructions. (its a2004 E53 3.0 diesel), but I have further questions - my understanding is that further modifications can be carried out - things I'm looking to so are - audible alarm beep, doors lock past a certain speed, set memory drivers seat to a particular key fob, etc. - Can anyone elaborate on which screens/pages I need to go into to do this as I haven't been able to work it out?

Has any member replaced the Webasto PCB resistors as per the Rover 75 forum's 'frenchmike' thread with a successful outcome re. on/off and timed control from the OBC?

I would be very interested in trying this. Is there anyone in the Wiltshire/Gloucestershire area with the right software and equipment?

I am obviously happy to pay for the privilege of trying it, as you will have had to buy the system in the first place.

guys, here's a stupid question before i try this tomorrow! (thought i should validate my assumption before frying something!)

in this and other threads it was suggested that giving power to pin 1 manually should power the webasto up..

pin 1 where? pin 1 going into the webasto unit i presume? it can't be the pin 1 of the OBD port under the dash surely?

giving power to this pin should power the webasto up?

pin 1 of the 6 pin(not all used) multiplug on top of your webasto heater.
you need to make and hold a good +12v connection to this wire to test.

thanks, got it - its the 6 pin connector on top of the unit. i just tried it, didn't work.

i need help pls.

here's what i tried:

stripped off a bit of shield from wire on pin 1, connected positive lead. nothing happened. held for about a minute as well in case there was a timer, nothing at all happened.

then i tried the same with the key in teh ignition hole, in position 1 (ie, radio on). still nothing happened.

then i pulled out the 6-pin plug and held the positive lead onto the pin 1 itself (little chance unless the units housing acted as the ground). still nothing happened:(

nothing happening as in, no sound or feedback AT ALL. not even the teeniest spark.

postive that i provided couldn't have been better either, cos it was from the massive postive outlet just around there (provided in case car needed to be jumped started), and using a 4mm cable (piece from what is used for powering sub amps)

have i missed a step somewhere? or am i one of the unlucky ones? (i remember dirtymonkey saying this is really touch and go..)

I've just checked my fuse and it was missin number 59 ?? Just tried powering it up off the sat nav and nothing ((

when trying out the aux heater by giving power to pin 1, does the battery voltage being slightly low matter? i think mine is around 11.7v (batt is not really good)?

also, should aux heater kick in if pin 1 is given power, whilst the engine is running? because if that's the case i can try after starting the engine as that increases the batt voltage with the charge current.
