I had my x5 4.4 converted to lpg last July and so far have covered 36000 trouble free miles at 30mpg . The conversion cost £1850 which is more than offset by the savings .
With respect do you mean 2010 or 2011 !!!!!!!!!!

Sorry it was 2010 .

So...I don't do many miles, mainly town driving in a 4.4 v8. Am i best sticking with petrol?

Personally I would say yes. Depending on your miles it may not be worth even converting to LPG.

I would say yes, as all gas systems start on petrol no matter how warm the engine is (unless you force it to start on gas). So if you are stopping and starting the engine a lot, do short journeys, and never get the engine warm then it is a waste of time and money to convert to gas. In winter mine does not change over for about 3 miles after first start, dropping to around a mile in summer

Mine changes over to gas after about a mile, winter or summer, that is what the engine thermostat is for, hold the engine water in the block till it reaches working temps, there is not much difference between winter and summer if thermo is working correctly.

Mine too, on first start of the cold day it's just under a mile, any other start in the day is quicker if within 5 hours or so of last use.
