marti wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 9:45 am Can you see any evidence of water ingress around at the rear of the engine around injector 5 & 6?
You are right about this there are water trays at the back of the engine and they split and drip water on injectors 5 and 6 , I looked at mine just this week and the drivers one is split and will be letting water in , until you touch them they look fine but they are just sitting there and wobble when touched .This in mine the piece with the build date on it , looks fine but its actually broken in 2 .The centre one is the most critical and they get brittle with age.20220319_114848[1].jpg
My X6 broke down once and basically it was the water trays had split resulting in killing injector 5 and 6, although after leaving the car for 5 minutes it would reset itself , start and get about 2 miles and stop again, took me about an hour to get home....not to bad a job to change them and then of course sort out the trays.

Id say you are one one many Marti , I have heard they can corrode into the head and be a right pain to remove , Have seen the state of some that came out on utube and you need a slidehammer to attach to them to give a direct pull so then won't come out . I'm keen to get my tray replaced before any bother starts as it can't be broke too long as I have it off every few months to clear that annoying drain below the master cylinder that keep blocking :headbang:

lezmtaylor I hope we can still be well enough to change plugs at your age fair play but 30 hours :o I take it there were issues

Hi Leslie,
With lpg there is so much more to dismantle with pipework, electrics etc. Of course with such a long plug change interval, I forgot what had to be removed, dismantled etc. Being retired and having time on my hands there was no reason to rush it, just enjoy !!!!!

Sounds like a busy week Lez :D

Well tried to be cheap and buy a secondhand partition tray , asked the seller very clearly was it cracked , pics were supplied and well its arrived and is for the bin :headbang: big split down the part that usually splits but to be fair not obvious unless you know what you are looking for :headbang: going to buy new from Bmw lesson learned  Still cheaper than 2 new injectors :o

what with a new rad and new water pump already it's been one of those months :fuelfire:

Hi Leslie,
Just a thought,(bet you have already ) can you not repair the plastic with a soldering iron that will melt and stick back together, or rivet / bolt a patch over split, or fibre glass a patch ?
Just my twopenny worth.
You have a spare, unless thrown away to play with.

Lez I have already ordered now but yes when I heard the price make do and mend did come into my thoughts. Luckily I only need the one and if the others fall apart I will certainly be trying that type of fix in the future. The secondhand one I got is still in one piece so would have been ideal to repair. Thanks for the thoughts  at this rate 2 new injectors might be cheaper
I have seen Chinese ones for sale but they look slightly different and like a few of these copies are all for LHD vehicles, the wiper motor is on the opposite side and the moulding is different I think to slip under it.while looking for a window switch cover before I found the cheap copies were all LHD and a mirror image of what was needed.

I bought these trays from evil Bay a while back for my x6 and they were a pretty good fit. Original had been broken by bmw while doing servicing work although as usual that was denied.

MOD Edit - changed to sentence case from all CAPS…

Hi Eminem, please I’m Alessandro. I kindly wanted to ask you how you solved the 4B82, 40D4, 4C9F, 4C9E error code problem on your X5 E70 40D? I also have the same problem on my X5. I wait for your reply! Thank you.

I had a a code for the 02 sensor with no eml light on....only reason I plugged it in was I had a bit of smoke coming from the rear so changed it out and no more smoke.....
