Last year I had a high oil level display on my car, X6, and had an oil change done to see if it fixed it..
The same high oil level display showed and I was thinking the worst like a leaking injector.
It turned out that the oil level sensor was faulty and after having it replaced and calibrated it has been fine.

New (to me) car time
Re: New (to me) car time
Just had call from diesel specialist and he reckons that it may be number one injector as it is showing as having the highest amount of fuel usage (he explained it a little better). He has added some snake oil which has vastly improved, but not cured the starting issue, but says to run it for a week and see how it behaves. The next step would be to replace no one injector. He did also say that the black smoke under full throttle conditions is probably due to all six injectors being a little worn as they appear to be the originals.
Basically worst case scenario I will need all six injectors replaced and they are non-serviceable on this model. He said the cost quickly but £240 plus vat each comes to mind

Re: New (to me) car time
I didn't know the injectors were non serviceable as earlier models were but still were expensive to recon and as for the cost new Ouch ! but you won't need 6 probably just the one . I guess he did a smooth running test which compares the 6 to each other .
Re: New (to me) car time
Yes thats right, but the difference between number one and the rest was not huge
Re: New (to me) car time
Maybe not but until the minimum rail pressure is met the car will not try for a start and one leaking injector could drag the pressure down too far. Cranking speed can affect this too .
My old 330d started first time every time with 200k on it but it was putting out a fair bit of black smoke if you floored it as the injectors were probably well worn but I always added miller diesel additive and had no issues and knew a few diesel owners who had injectors problems at lower miles.
