Why is it perfect for E53?

Those Pirelli P zero's are OE on my 2014 lci X3, so you will be fine with those on the X5

2. non staggered, no transfer,diff, gearbox issues
3. et 48/18 looks good with wide arches
4. oe bmw
5. Set up not available on e53

Hankook Ventus tyres are showing as 'Not suitable for' against the current F15 model, but whether that is still relevant for the E53 I don't know.  Hankook were only added for the F15/16 series.

Puzzled that they list a tyre in the parts catalogue and then call it unsuitable ???

Because different folk have a different take on what defines a "winter" set up. For some folk on here it is about having a spare set of wheels and tyres that all take all the mud and crud and road salt etc so that they can keep the summer set shiny and clean. For others it is about tacking serious winter weather. For driving in deep snow a higher profile tyre is better as it cuts through the now easier and will flex more (resulting in better grip), that allowed profile or a run flat. And the compound makes a difference. winter compounds operate best at or below 7c (So much so that in Nordic countries it is an offence to run summer tyres in the winter).
So whilst I don't necessarily disagree with you (except for the fact that something that 'looks good' is not a reason for a winter set set up!), I do this it is very much a case of the conditions and horses for courses.

I've been running Toyo Proxes on the 4.8 for nearly all of it's life with me and no issues. I've even run them round Spa and Silverstone  )

Got the Pirellis fitted the rears were 5mm and the fronts closer to 6mm - before I put them on I measured the circumference of all 4 and there was a difference of about 8mm. I reckon from the factory the 315 35 20 will be approx 2300mm.....and the 275 40 20 approx 2305mm

The car seems to drive spot on again, need to take it for a proper spin but so far so good. Not too sure about run flats on an E53 but thats another discussion (only put these on for £200 to test the transfer box)

The acceleras are now in my garden and from just putting the fronts and rears side by side you can see a size difference. Having measured them there is a 30mm difference in circumference - no wonder the transfer box was going mad

30mm    no wonder it wasn't happy given that builds up a little more on each rotation!

Im shocked to be honest didnt expect it to be that much

Couldn't agree more - come on guys step forward and defend your comments !!!!!!

Put whatever you want on your cars.... ATM I can afford to put decent tyres on so I will. Reading on this site and other it seems putting different rubber on at the same time or different tread depths screws things up, KKx5 is the guru on the transfer boxes.

After paying for a new gearbox I don't fancy coughing up for a transfer box next. I probably could've gotten away with just relaxing the rears this time around, decided not to risk it
