Keep them as back up. I would be tempted to get winter tyres mounted to them as they'll make an ideal set of winter wheels (do this privately after you have purchased your car). I have friends in Cardiff, who tell me the weather the South Wales was generally harsh last year.

Good call I think, I made the same decision when I ordered mine, only about 4 weeks to wait for me though, :D

The reverse camera is a must especially for a car this size, I have also gone for the side view cameras although havent actually seen them on an X5 I know that they will come in handy.

Just cant wait to be :driving: , have been tracking my car and is currently in the gulf of mexico!!!

@mark09: Definately a good call. In my case the top view is as much for me as my wife - it's a big car and the parking spaces in this country are invariably tiny!! If you're an iphone user as well, may be worth seeing if you can spec the 6NR option for enhanced iphone compatability - tried to for mine but wasn't available given timing of my build ...

@X5Trace: I've also gone for side view cameras - actually my wife's addition (hates blind exits) in addition to adaptive headlights (she's not keen on night driving). Still I'm not complaining - all good fun and should come in handy! How did you find out which ship it's on? Mine is due for delivery in early April, so guess it could be on the same ship as yours!?

When I collect I want to make the following additions:
- tv in motion.
- tracker
- wheel locks. Not sure what the upgraded 21" wheels come with in terms of security lock nuts?!

Any advice or recommendations where to get the above?

@MJim My dealer has kept me updated on a regular basis as to what stage my vehicle was at and following the info that X5Sport put on the thread in the general discussion forum on tracking your order I managed to find out which ship it was on.
I have also added the adaptive headlights, I had it on my last car and it's on our 330. I too am not big on night driving And I have to say that I love it, will never have a car without it as for me it makes a big difference.

@Mark09 I am having the tracker fitted by the dealer. I needed it for insurance purposes and the dealer included it free as part of my deal. :D Tracker's I have had fitted in the past have always been fitted by the dealership.

@X5Trace: many thanks for your reply - much appreciated! I'll take a look at X5Sport's thread on tracking. Interesting that your car is on the ship already yet you've been told 4 weeks to go - must take a long way to work it's way through the system / to be prepped - I'd have thought the shipping time would only be a week or so. Really pleased you find the adaptive lights helpful. Out of interest, which Tracker did you get fitted?

Yes it does seem a long time but the ship is out to sea for 24 days although some ships are. Only 19 or 20 it just depends on how many ports they have to stop off at, mine is estimated to arrive at Southampton on the 20th March then it will be taken to the PDC in Thorne then onto the dealer where the tracker will be fitted. As far as I know BMW only use Trakstar so that is what is being fitted to mine.

These Vehicle Carrier ships only do about 12-15knots anyway so they're not the QM3 crossing the pond in 7 days at 30knots+ :( I think mine took about 21 days from Charleston to Southampton, although it sat at Bremerhaven for 3 just offloading and onloading again. They hold a few thousand vehicles in these things so the cargo value must be huge.

My E71 was built about 7th Oct and delivered to me 11th Nov.

Mark, BMW do approved McGuard locking nuts with revolving seats. Keep the original locking nuts on with the 21's and install McGuard's too, this is the set up I'm running with my 21's.

Do you not like the BMW performance 21's?

Looks like our cars are travelling together ;) I believe min is on Fedora, ETA Southampton 20/03.
Out of interest, which Tracker did you get fitted?
I have asked dealer if they could fit BMW trackstar but they guy said this would delay delivery and I have to arrange it myself and recommended Tracker Network. I was thinking more of Smartrack Trident or Trackstar 450. When I called the installer (Vehtech, seem to be experienced, Thatchem approved installer and will travel nationwide) and asked what would he recommend for X5. He was surprised with dealer's recommendation an suggested to fit Trackstar since it's BMW approved.
Will book fitting in couple of days, they should then coordinate with the dealer and get all done once the car is in dealership.
