What does a rolling road brake tester show the brakes are actually doing? What performance is actually being delivered by each corner? Is it balanced across each axle? Is it correctly balanced front/rear?

I haven't had my X5 on a rolling road brake tester, I should look into whether anyone down here has such a thing;
The thing is , like Dan it's only the slight increase in pedal travel that's a problem- once it engages- full braking power is there, I'd be very surprised if one or more of the brakes weren't effective.

Re: New calipers (more help needed please)
OK. UK cars get put on a rolling road brake tester every year to get their 'warrant' - I think you call it - MOT Road Safety test for cars aged over 3 years, so most garages have such a tool for checking brake efficiency and balance. Does the warrant check not do the same for you folks?
Could be a piston sticking momentarily perhaps when you apply the brakes, and then 'catching up' with the fact the pedal has been applied?

Re: New calipers (more help needed please)
I'm in the State of Victoria, no MOT or anything like that, your car an be 100 years old and you don't have to get it tested, (unless you sell it privately, then a mechanic has to say it's roadworthy.);
I don't believe it's a piston stuck 'on', it could be a calliper piston retracting too far when releasing brake pedal; then the pedal has to take up the slack when you reapply the brakes (pad knock back), I haven't excluded that possibility- but it should disappear ( I think) with time as the pads wear down; there is also a slight hiss when I first apply brakes, that makes me think the booster is somehow faulty...?

A bit far unless I happened to be passing though. Thanks anyway. It's going back in tomorrow anyway.

Re: New calipers (more help needed please)
sorry to raise an old thread but i thought i'd share this
while replacing all the vacuum pipes on the x5 a couple of weeks ago i replaced the non return valve for the servo .... I've just noticed today that the brake pedal doesn't do that slow creep to the floor that i described before

Thank you for the update;
Do you know if replacing the pipes was part of the solution; or just replacing the check valve fixed the problem?
Where did you buy the check valve from?

I've looked it up and found this part number 16111184932,
But I'm having trouble visualising where it is,
could you please post a pic of it installed in or on your motor?
