Yup, but there was also the bit about it being "fitting and appropriate" to make a donation on the muchloved.com website too. And given that language, I imagine that's as comforting as multiple threads from multiple fora for the family.

My condolences and money have already been pledged. That's not to say I'm ignoring the terrible grieving process Matt's family have in front of them, but from what I did know from my exchanges with Matt was that he was a very light-hearted and banter loving fella. Forum banter will not die with him.

I understood this thread was as much info sharing on what had happened to the forum and ultimately Matt as keeping a community together?

Just wanted to add this link -

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... 41422&nmt=
I can confirm that Matt Hinton the administrator of BMWLand passed away on 30th April after a long traumatic illness. He leaves a wife (one of my closest friends) and 18 year old son. He is the Matt Hinton on muchloved.com and if anyone wants to donate to Lymphoma Association, it would be fitting and appreciated.

The passwords of the site were on his laptop and the family are trying to break into the laptop (they have sources to help with this) and also decide what to do with the site. As you can appreciate the site's future is on the list of many administrative items Mrs Hinton needs to address following his death and I ask for some space whilst she decides. I will send her the link to this thread, I am sure she will appreciate the thoughts for her and her family.
Thanks for this update I too have donated to Matt's muchloved page. I hope other members will show their support as well  :)

Sad news.  :(
Our thoughts are with the family.

Had frequented BMWland for a while but must admit was not a great poster but did help and took help.  Was a good forum.

Should be worth a note that our previous site had issues and a fellow "X" forum welcomed us there and so it is only right we extend that to our fellow marques forum members.
After all there are many similar components within these cars (and drivers!!!) that we have all had experiences with.

Really sad news about Matt, its good that this sites allows some of us to keep in touch and perhaps reach out to others!
Matts passing touched me on a personal level and committed to make ongoing contributions to such charity's that do so much for the sufferers and families, most often we get blinkered with "it shall never happen to me!"
The kindness of this site shall go along way to the pay respects and tribute to Matts Life! which Im sure with kind words, shall provide comfort for to his nearest & dearest, more so in the days, weeks & months ahead!

Having read through posts and several sites, there is a consensus that a fund raising gathering has to be made, in Matts & Bmwland name, whilst at this time, we must respect the family and allow them to grieve!
Im sure in time, collectively we can organise a gathering!

Wishing you all continued good health!

Nice to see a lot of familiar faces :) although sad that it's in these circumstances. :(

Condolences to Matt's family. :( Although I never knew the guy I understand he was a similar age to me, puts it all into perspective.

BMWLand was (hopefully will still be) one of my go-to sites each day as I find it a really friendly place and devoid of coarse language. It's the only site where I've felt it worth it to pay a membership! Shows how good a site it was that Matt maintained. I've often asked for and dished out advice where I've been able to.

Hi all,

I have just joined here as am a member of bmwland.  Very sad news, thoughts are with the family!

I browsed bmwland for a few years before finally purchasing a bmw 320 ED F30 2012 plate, and then supported bmwland for the last 2 years, very nice place, lots of helpful people.

Nice to see some bmwland members here.

Agree on all counts.

I saw Murray - Verbarthe and Sean - snrbtsn on the Livster's Pistonheads thread, together with Woocebrillis and guess some of them may have had contact via PM with others as I have with James 535dboy and RickT previously. I'm guessing Murray will have had contact with slim and Peter up in Scotland. I used have to have kleynie's details but appear to have mislaid them but I'm guessing we could pull together a core representation?

Olli and Brocky no doubt know a lot of the guys and I remember Olli sold his Alpina to Harry.

I'm here now, took a while but Sean brought this to my attention (thank you).  Devastated by the news and I hope everything pulls together in time.

I guess at least I can pretend owning an x drive with my GT.

I'm another BMWLand member who's been looking around the internet to find out what's happened to the site.  Really shocked, didn't expect to read such bad news and I'd like to add my condolences.

RIP Matt.
