Been looking into this issue..

On ebay, SOME of the VORTEX separators still appear to have a foam can shaped filter element, others show a complex moulded chunk insert, or are the sellers just sodding useless and unawares of the two variants...
And when they quote an E53 Diesel..... I check the compatibility chart ..... nothing fits a 2004 Diesel X5.

Any one got ideas on this plz ?

I still haven't bought one!  :-[
Want to buy one ASAP! As going to service it within the next couple weeks!
It just said no compatible match, yet the advert says it  will fit!  :-[

So if anyone can find one on ebay that will fit a 2002 3.0d please let me know the item no.  ;)

I suspect the sellers don't know their 8rses from their elbows.  Given how critical the part is, and that you won't need to change it again, why not fit OEM?  Yes it's about £40 - or less if you talk to our new friends ColtswoldBMW on here, but a bad copy could cause all sorts of grief up to and including a buggered turbo seal!

To me this is one of those 'safety critical' parts - at least from a wallet point of view.
