Hi,
I have obtained the original options listed when my car was new & there is no mention of ''parking heater''
To the best of my knowledge I thought all diesel models ( facelift at least ) have the parking heater but for wahtever reason it was never enabled on UK spec cars.
You could buy a telestart form bMW to operate it but I read that dealers where relectant to program it to be operated via the OBC.
My car, like most only had auxilary ventilation on the OBD so I fitted ( with the help of thios forum ) a remote relay form maplins.
This provides 12v to pin one. The heater then does the rest.
I have read where some people have not been able to get the heater to work without fitting more parts ( i.e. a circulator ) so maybe some cars were supplied without this function ?
Which heater do you have as there seems to be two types, from memory C top & Z top. Maybe one has cabin heat function & the other doesn't ( will check tomorrow which mine is )
It does sound like you have no circulation, did you check the coolant water with the cap off as suggested to see if the water is moving ? It may be that you have a problem with the pump not circulating the water around the heater matrix.
Also found a youtube video here which may be useful for you - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2ROVXbKMag
There are two parts but I didn't watch them all.
Regards, Phil.

Hi,
Yes 3.0d, December 2005 model.
I think mine is C unit, will check tomorrow.
I wonder why some models had the Z fitted & others the C unless it was an option ?
I know you could order the heater as an option on the petrol models but I thought it was standard on diesels.
Another query I had was that I understand most UK models did not have either the heating option on the OBD or the telestart yet it advises in the owners manual to start the heater periodically in the summer, I presume to keep it in good order but how could you do this without the option to start it ?
Without this the heater will only fire when you start the engine when the ambient temperature is low enough so it could be dormant for months at a time ?
Regards, Phil.

Was an option on petrol, z was standard on all diesels for efficient heating of the block and the park heating was an option for the diesels so maybe why some have the thermo c

Hi,
just re-checked my options list & it doesn't mention parking heater ( unless it was included in one of the 'packs' ? )
Strangely though, when I first got my X5 I was convinced it had aux heat / vent option on the OBD. When I came to set it though only aux vent was showing, the only thing I had done to the car was to update the satnav with an aftermarket ;) disc. I e-mailed the supplier of the disc to ask if it was possible that the update had deleted my aux heat option & he said it shouldn't affect it.
I put it down to me imagining things.
I hope you get it sorted as it is a fantastic option when the frosty weather arrives.
Phil.

Yeah the thermo top c has the additional circulation pump mounted on the webasto. If you can also confirm if you have the c or the z that would be great

Cheers mate. If you get a chance can you take some pics of your pipe work... In particular the pipes that come from the pump attached to the webasto itself so I can see where it goes
