I just called Rybrook Warwick reference to my 06/2010 E70 Sport. After checking my chassis number they tell me that there is no recall or quality check alert against my car. Now what ?

Try ringing BMW GB and see if they have it showing?  If nothing then it must be outside the range, but the reports I've seen would put that car two months inside the 'possibles'.

Thanks Richard

I have just emailed BMW UK asking the question as I would rather the answer be a written reply.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.....

Suspected catastrophic failure of UJ at the weekend at motorway speeds leading to parts of the propshaft poking out of the bottom of the car and losing all transmission fluids.
Car recovered to dealer today so awaiting prognosis and will post updates.

For now wondering where anyone on this thread got to with an official line from BMW?

Thanks

Has the car had the recall done?

If it has then that is much more worrying.  My concern is that dealers may have paid lip service to it and only done a cursory glance rather than a proper check.

It doesn't help I know.  All you can do is ask, and then given there has been an issue if yours wasn't changed then was it checked properly.  You can always get VSA (was VOSA) involved too.

Hi there,
My drive shaft failed at 70mph in the fast lane a few weeks ago, my car is within the manufacturing date of this recall / safety check Oct 2010. Just spoke to BMW UK HQ they said no fault was known....although it has a program control unit recall or check. My car has been at the dealership for weeks without anyone mentioning this and trying to say 'it can just happen'??? seriously?? Just had an independant inspection who stated if i hadn't pulled over my engine would have ceased when it ran out of oil and as i was in the fast lane of the motorway i would have most likely killed myself and most of the drivers around me.

Does anyone have any solid info on this as its caused 10k plus damage or the details of their dealership who dealt with their concerns promptly and know about this so i can contact them for some info and advice.
The independent assessor says it has failed doe to play and movement on the front prop / drive shaft.

Thanks in advance!!

See this thread.

UK VOSA did not require it as a Safety Recall.  It was a recall pretty much everywhere else.

You'd have thought the EU would have a Europe-wide laws on this.  Just shows where we could actually do with some EU-wide laws they do nothing no doubt due to industry lobbying and bribes  ::)

I wondered if anyone has the name of their dealership who was happy to replace it and check it so was aware of the issue and 'quality check' on the e70
