I assume you like visits to the dealers then if you want to buy a RR?
Everyone I know that has one has suffered a breakdown within 12 months. Shocking really.

Hi,
There is a very good reason anything Land Rover is at the bottom of the JD power survey every year.
Not for me thanks. Ive been to the factory in birmingham and the brand new disco we were going to use round their estate broke down.
Says it all really. Also amused me at the time because in their reception there was a petrol V8 and the guy was commenting on their engines and I couldn't resist informing him that it looked like a BMW V8 to me.........which it was.

As I've said before (and touching all the wood I can find!) the two BMs I have owned have been the least reliable cars I have ever owned and I've owned two lotus don't forget

Well I've had lots of BMW's sinve the late 80's. Only one was a nuisance....E53 4.8iS......all the rest were good cars and funnily enough only went wrong because of some bad service ( mostly @ bmw garage )
However the worst car I ever had was a renault............so that why I will never buy a french car as long as i live.
Before my old man dies he gave me 2 bits of advice. One of them was never buy anything with an MG badfge or a Land Rover badge. I don't think he was wrong . ( the other piece of advice was spend lots of money on shoes and lots of money on beds.........if you're not in one you are in the other ).
Ive managed the first 50 years of my life without a land rover , I think i'll manage the rest without as well.

at the min i'm on my first landrover and touch wood its been good, my brothers on his second in a row and been fine and my dads currently got a disco 4 which is his 4th on the trot all been fine, i have had 15 bmws and the single worst car i've ever owned for problems was my pre facelift x5, so as above im happy to try anything really with the exception of french cars, i see you've also never seen an x5 in the remote parts of the world so really that card can't be played, but hey each to there own i will know in 6 months time if its right or wrong decision but so far so good!
i also know that you have a hatred for landrover but on ones my age its not like e53s are trouble free

Hi,
I know we dont see any X5's in " extreme " regions of the world. BMW doesnt market or sell itself on those attributes. Its a road car. As a road car its brilliant. Also this is an X5 forum so deriding other manufacturers all part and parcel of the colourfull banter and opinions.
Land rover however heavily markets itself as the Best 4 X 4 X far...........I am 100 % convinced they pay to have the huge amount of hype/reviews about how good their products are. I happen to disagree with the hype so i vote with my feet. The independent surveys like JD Power clearly are in disagreement with the manufacturers claims. I believe JD power over a manufacturer trying to sell me a product. I dont like land rovers , dislike them and have always found them wanting. All that said, for your sake, I am pleased to hear that its been trouble free and its met or exceeded your expectations. My opiniuos are not intended to be personal.I think land Rover ( and many others UK car makes ) are typically brithish industries. They have great ideas, but execute them terribly. I could bore you all day long with the great cars made over the last 30 years in the Uk that were turds because of poor quality yet on paper/principle should have been winners . Its a shame, for me its a case of once bitten , keep well away, my custom is lost and has gone elsewhere and it will take a monumental effort/product to win me back . To be honest after renault my second worst experience was with VW and they have a fantastic reputation. I have had 5 VW's in the past but after the last one and my own personal experience with the dealers and VW UK, will never have one again. I say it as I find and sometimes that will conflict with other peoples experiences .Perhaps in the future if and when they get their act together and their reputation improves I may even change my mind and get one. I would like to support the british economy and british jobs, but not at the repeated expense of my patience and purse.
