the hedgehog also called the FSR (Final Stage Resister) does get hot, hence the heat-sink on it to disperse the heat, which makes it look like a hedgehog.
like u say it is of course known to cause battery drain when gone bad; hence its a well known component among most of the lot here.
but i don't believe it get anywhere close to 'glowing hot' to cause a fire.. at least i haven't heard of the FSR as a potential fire hazard..

hi glad you all got out safely , never even thought about the dead locks & windows stopping working , I saw a handy tool in a well known store for breaking the windows for about a tenner , I think it is about time we all bought one !
