It's not so much a war of words. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
An opinion would be "a V8 doesn't deserve to be LPG'd" which is a fair statement and open to debate.
However you then generalise LPG owners by claiming the fact it is an LPG means the owner is a tight ass ad has skimped on maintenance.
Perhaps it was LPG'd because it meant the owner could enjoy it on a daily basis. It WAS a 60k vehicle and now it's only a 10k vehicle. If I bought a 4.8is I probably would LPG it but not coz I'm a tight ass, but because I'm not a fan of diesels but would like to have to some degree the benefits of diesel ie mpg. I wouldnt skimp on services and so forth.
Also when I refer to a 2k system I'm talking about the cost of a prinns LPG system not the comms pack (brc slightly cheaper), I probably should have clarified that. That's quite a large initial outlay.
I respect opinions always, but generalisations I do not. Please excuse me if I have made a mountain out of a mole hill. Just the way I see your comments.

lpg doesn't mean tight, lpg cars are congestion charge exempt unless im mistaken so lpg would pay for its self very fast if you communte into London, also on that argument why do they do 90k cars in diesel? if you spend that money on a car you should be able to afford to run the petrol model. I have had an lpg car and you cant run them on fiesta money, its more like a v8 on 3.0d money by no means are they economical to small cheap car costs

The OP asked for people's opinions and advice. When someone asks your honest opinion, you give it.
As we are all different , our opinions will differ.
So there is no reason to contradict other people's views. ( that's my opinion anyway
)

Greetings all. Just saying hi once again, and a little update.
This afternoon I put a deposit on a silver 2005 4.8is
All seems okay with the car after a good going over and drive - air suspension goes up and down, and levels from low when driving off. No smoke on idle. Pan roof works. No nasty knocks or bangs. All in all quite a clean car, and on just 40k miles with a BMW history. Gearbox is very smooth in all modes. The car is very fast, and sounds amazing. No pixels out on dash, all nav and in car entertainment works. Black leather with the silver interior trim pack. Maybe more owners than what I wanted, but the car is like new, and was a hexagon approved used car in 2011 - so hopefully has had tlc, and certain attributes of the car reflect this (genuine oil and maintaince fluids included in a little BMW bag in the boot!)
The tyre pressure light was on in the car, and it was a condition of my sale that is its resolved, and the car is given a full MOT.
I am excited, but also cautious at the same time... what on earth have I done! O:-)
Hopefully all goes well with the car - do let me know your thoughts, and thanks for the help so far!
Matt

You have checked important things albeit I can't say categorically if everything fine without seeing the car. It it sounds like you have applied some sense when evaluating this purchase. I could cross refer to multiple comments in the buyers guide but essentially you need to be satisfied re condition history correct operAtion of everything plus wear on consumables such as discs pads and tyres. Ensure you have done hpi and cross checked data regardless of what seller may assure paying attention to matching numbers and mileage at key dates. If you haven't agreed warranty I would strongly advise against being arm twisted to buy a warranty recommended by the trader. Many now claim they have to make you buy warranty by law but this is not so. You can buy your own - traders say you must have their recommended warranty because in event of a future redress for component failure some will wash hands and refer you to the warranty provider. If you choose to buy your own warranty elsewhere they could also leave you with unresolved repair as they might argue you chose to make own Plans. The reality is the seller not a warranty provider is responsible for settling any claim re failed parts. Basically any fault found in 6 months legally assumed to have been present at point of sale unless seller proves otherwise. Many have small print in sale contract stating seller agrees everything is fine at point of sale. Hopefully you won't have to worry re things going expensively wrong but I would advise against paying extra for a Mickey Mouse warranty whose provider may be likely to refuse to pay out or place significant charges against you for a claim. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the warranty and issue handling advice.
I will be sure to give the car another look over when taking ownership if all goes to plan.
Have called BMW to check out history and it has had dealer visits and an oil service less than 1000 miles ago. It also had inspection 2 as part of an approved used car check at Hexagon BMW in 2011.
For my peace of mind I may give it a new BMW air filter even though the car is not due one mileage wise, and will have to take a look for an updated sat nav disc in due course. The ones with traffic and speed camera alerts are pretty cool!
Regards
Matt
