I pay around 125o - 1300 on a 3.0 I would happily pay an extra few hundred quid and get a 4.8is... I couldnt even get a quote for a 4.6is!

That's odd. I'm sure I remember putting in details with/without kids, some years ago, and it was cheaper with.

Adding children and a wife to your policy will bring your premium down not the other way round. Apparantly it shows you are a more mature and sensible driver....

Not as I know it. Mine actually went up. I asked why and that was the reason I was given. I googled it as i couldnt believe the crap they were feeding me and there are LOADS of people who have experienced the same thing as me! Like I said its considered an interferance in driver concentration. Your more likely to take your eyes off the road with trouble in the back seats than not.

Sorry Raj I do not see the logic of being considered a mature driver by insurance companies just because you have kids...

Well, whaddya know, you're right.

Just put in my standard details into gocompare with/without children. The 'with children' price was from £3-8 more expensive over the year.

Only ever been asked how many kids I have when using the likes of the Meerkat site. The last 4 differnet ins companies that I have gone direct to have not asked. Using the comparison sites is helpful but as they cover so many sites they ask the most questions  ::)

As said before, first use a comparison site to get the best quote, then go to that company directy to see if the quote is better. Also don't forget cash back sites. I have just done as above reduced the quote by over £50 (down from £300) then checked Quidco and they offered another £51 CB so bring the total down to just under £200!!! £100 less than the current insurer.

Why is it the older you get the cheaper your insurance becomes? Same as why when you add your wife to your policy does it again bring your premium down.

Logic is quite clear really. At work we have our own general insurance division and was told this when being quoted. Theory was you drive more carefully/cautious/slower when having your children in the car. Worked for me.

Every insurance company is different and will have different criteria and use different statistics to work into their calculation.

i mentioned children specifically. having children doesnt make a person a more mature driver. Its an assumption that your making by saying those with kids are more mature drivers.
Also define mature... mature can mean some one old but also some one sensible right? so you could be a mature driver i.e. 75 yrs old... doesnt mean you will be a good driver.

Regardless, yes it is all differenct, ever since i became a dad my insurance has gone up, not significantly but has done for the reasons stated above. Also I am not sure if adding your wife to your premium will now make it go down as pricing cannot be determined by sex?

But yep insurance is a dam pain in the ass. mine keeps going up regardless of NVB and clean license!

If you read my comment you will see it was not MY assumption and I was stating that in my circumstance I was told this by the GI memebr of staff at my work place. Also, I didn't say it does make you a more mature driver, but that was the theory in the instance I mentioned.

I think you will find that insurance calculations constantly change, hence why they alter year on year with effects on premiums. Statistics play a huge factor, hence why when you say "mature can mean some one old but also some one sensible right? so you could be a mature driver i.e. 75 yrs old... doesnt mean you will be a good driver", I agree but in insurance terms they are statistically less accidents and hence why premiums drop the older you get.

Looks like what I was saying was taken out of context. I work with our Insurance Director here and was just stating facts that he had told me, and from what I had been told by Admiral/AXA regarding insurance policies with kids, sorry mate if it sounded like I was putting your own theory (or your insurance dept) on a downer.

Just the point I was making that actually my OWN insurance policy has been on an increase despite me getting older, having kids and gaining NCB.

Apologies again if i sounded like i was being a dick.

Just got to be careful they don't weasel out of paying out if the car is stolen from its driveway - which I presume they consider higher risk if more expensive, presumably as its not so exposed to other people seeing what's going on ....

Insured the x yesterday with MoreThan for £732 after being refused Insurance yet again all because I have a "non std
Schnitzer rear valance fitted"
The next car I buy will be standard with
no aftermarket body kits !!!

Maybe they noted that you couldn't park it properly and upped the premium accordingly!
