Geezer, This is BP in South Ruislip. They have this voucher where they give you a penny off after every time you fill up. However there is this untold understanding that they will freely stamp it to 6p a litre off immediately and once you get to 10p a litre off (maximum on the voucher) they let you keep the voucher and receive 10p off every litre. They do keep the prices slightly higher than other local pumps though. They currently charge 78.9 while the shell down the road is 74.9. However whether or not he lets everyone do this I am unsure, they know me personally as i used to fill up my V6 Alfa in there pretty much every other day!

Y13YHA, thanks for the informative debrief on your conversion. At £1,200 it's a fair but cheaper than mine which is costing £1,500. Your price/mileage figures, are they for urban or motorway miles? I'd also be interested in knowing where u decided to have your LPG level indicator?

On a separate note, I had a call from the mechanic saying the rocker cover gaskets will need changing. In all fairness I'd thought about asking him to change anyway a the X is on 96k.

He also said there was a knocking coming from the rear of the car but he had yet to investigate. This had me worried for about an hour, until I realised that I'd put a can of de-icer in one of the cubby holes at the back and it was probably this moving about  :-[

My miles are a mix with 150 miles on motorway...and the rest round town which is full of steep hills. Depending on how i drive it varies. The gauge for the LPG isnt very accurate as the gas 'moving about' seems to make it say full for the first 100 miles before going down showing 1/4 full. As mentioned above though by one of the members you get to learn yourself how many miles your car will do, but as a benchamark it will depend on the size of tank. I wouldn't worry too much about the price as £1500 is still cheaper than some of the other quote i got (£1800 and £2100)! It sometimes is a case of 'you get what you pay for' but i am pleased so far with no issues - touch wood.  :) Pic below of where i mounted mine. Sorry i had to hijack someones picture but i highlighted where my gauge is. I wanted it discreet and out of the way.

Thanks guys.

Y13yha, that's a good spot. I think I'll go in the same line but a little further to the right.

Thanks Imy, I'm in NW London so when I get the X back next week I may pay a visit. I just checked, the BP near me this evening and LPG is at 74p.

Thought I'd 'quip" in my X5 4.4 has the BRC setup, it was installed years ago before I bought it and Ive owned this car for 2 years now. So far all seems well with it, no problems when booting it. You'll need to factor in an annual lpg service (£90 ish) but other than that its a very good system and Ive paid anywhere from 63p to 77p per litre. The only thing is knowing where to purchase LPG as very few garages stock it now days, good luck with your conversion though.

I'm in the Finchley/Hendon area, so technically the border of N and NW, as the FInchley postcode is N, whilst Hendon is NW.

My 4.4 was converted when purchased all the paperwork was with it and the installer who did the conversion is only 10 miles away from me and still going strong. I had it serviced just as a precaution (£93.00) and it hasn't missed a beat (tempting fate now).
As I understand it LPG has a lower calorific value than petrol so power is down when running on LPG but in no way noticeable in normal everyday driving.
The thing I do know is around town I get 190 to 200 miles on about 60 litres of LPG (£45 max) and on the Motorway with cruise set at normal motorway speeds it will go from Sussex to Whetherby and still have one light showing green fill up showed 58 litres.
I just think it's a hoot when my pal is pouring almost a hundred quids worth of diseasel into his Disco and I am at the next pump filling up for forty, bargain. I just hope not to many people broadcast it or Cameron and Co will hike the prices.
So get it done and enjoy it as it really does make these big cars so reasonable to run

I keep going round in circles with LPG'ing my 4.8.

I keep getting such mixed messages on the longer term issues on the engine with LPG. The other factor is the cost. I know peeps are getting fairly cheap quotes etc from companies like the ones highlighted here but I always want to get the best but the cost of the Prins systems for example are like £2200.

Hmmmmmmm

Does that include fitting Raj?

What sort of price would a similar speced LPG car get against a non lpg'ed one?

Actually Don makes a very good point about resale value when I was looking to buy we looked at several marques. We had sold our Horse Lorry as it just wasn't being used enough and brought a horse trailer, we needed something with a towing capacity of 2t + with 4 wheel drive as we both have other cars I didn't want to spend a fortune.
We looked at Range Rover (owned two in the past) Disco's, Mercedes ML, Toyota Landcruiser, Nisan Patrol and Shoguns plus of course the X5's (2 diesel, 2 petrol).
Firstly all the other marques tended to be on average about £2k + dearer for similar spec/mileage/age, that was a surprise and at first I dismissed the X5's as this seemed to indicate maybe some underlying issues. Then my wife tried the car we ended up buying and really liked the way it drove, oh and the sound of that V8.
So I did some research on line and I found what seemed to be the regular issues such as rear sub-frame bushes, FSR Front bushes etc. So the negotiation for the car began I ended up with an 02 X5 Sport 4.4 with FSH LPG converted 80k on the clock the supplying specialist fitted new polybushes to the rear sub-frame as part of the deal; price £4100. I changed the headunit for a Dynavin unit but that was my choice.
So my first beemer I think is a real bargain, and LPG doesn't seem to make a bit of difference to the resale price (certainly not through the trade anyway)
As far as I can tell the car history shows just regular servicing BMW Dealer to 60k then BMW Specialist the LPG conversion was done in 06 when the guys serviced it last year they suggested upgrading the injectors and that's it. I have driven it 8k over the last 10 months and enjoyed it greatly.
My CLS is now sold and I will upgrade the X5 later this year and I will certainly be looking for another LPG converted model.
