Ah there's a more experienced man talking!
Seriously though, gutted for you, and really hope you can get it fixed reasonably cheaply and well, and without further stress.

That's an LCI bumper, won't work (unless you want to retro-fit one).

You are right Sanj, they don't come on automatically unless you reverse....
She was really upset but as I said to her, if that's the worst thing that ever happens then we'll take it straight away. It's only metal (of the plastic variety) after all and we are all safe and well.

Exactly my thoughts, nothing that can be fixed, it's just bloody annoying.
My old Touareg used to engage the sensors below something like 10 mph. Occasionally it was annoying but I certainly preferred it to having to manually turn on if not reversing. You wouldn't want the graphic or top view to kick-in but at least a beep would tell you your close!

You can turn the fronts to come on at a set speed in the X5 I got mine to come on via software impa I think, but turned off sick off it beeping at traffic lights and junctions.

You got away with that quite lightly!! I hit a fox on the Horsham-Crawley dual carriageway about 20 years ago in an Opel Manta and it took front valance, bumper, steel bumper brace & supports, BOTH front wings, foglights, radiator, front towbar/recovery point and nsf lower suspension parts.
The fox didn't survive!!

Go on the shop, they also have 07-10 bumpers and they have wings for 80 but their all offside at the minute, but there's also a parts request form

The ///M was surprising stable when ploughing through as I felt a thud but it still remained stable and only realised that something might be up when the dash lit up due to the washer bottle etc being obliterated...lol
