This sort of thing would be great, any chance of saving a wasted trip would be welcome. In return any around the Hertfordshire area I would be happy to look at for people

Does it have to be AUC? Couldnt ou purchase privately and then purchase a 3rd party warranty? For a car worth 60K you would have to have money in the bank to buy one so they generally would be well maintained and cared for... Iv never bought from a dealer for your exact experiences.

Yeah, I'm the same, hate dealers with a passion >:(
I 'thought' that an AUC car would be decent quality although more expensive but I now believe that private or 'Dodgey John's' car lot would have an equal chance of supplying a better used car than BMW and £3K cheaper.
If a decent one came up, non AUC, then I would either pocket the difference as a safeguard or buy a third part warranty.

Have you tried pistonheads? I saw a few on There today. I tend to use pistonheads more than auto trader, find they usually have better quality cars on there...

I have been looking on Piston Heads, not seen anything yet. Don't know of any other used car sites other than Ebay, PH and Autotrader.

Right folks, it's official, BMW AUC are crap !!
I've just seen my second one, nearly 200 mile round trip, two weeks of e-mails and phone calls to leave the dealer, Snows of Portsmouth, in no doubt that I wanted one with no poor bodywork repairs.
Anyway, more of my time wasted today, 3 out of the four corners had a poor 'smart repair' the alloys also were refurbed to a poor standard, all this for £22K, they must be joking !!!
The whole top surface of the car had the feel of overspray having settled on it, the salesman played dumb as they all do.
I am now going to e-mail BMW UK to get some money back on petrol for the trip as these guys are a bunch of sodding monkeys.
Think I'll either try 'dodgey John motors' or give up on the idea all together. One thing for sure, the saying 'a fool and his money are easily parted' is true with these owners if they can accept a sh*t repair like this on a sixty grand motor.

I had problems with this bunch of clowns before threatening a small claims action, which led to them replacing the front discs, which should have been done priorvo collection, but wasn't. BMW UK were useless.
You need to treat an AUC car just like any other used motor. The AUC is only as good as the dealer, which in Snows case is drap.

Looks like I was lucky, the one I looked at also had a nasty chunk out of the nearside front tyre sidewall (about 3" wide), I was assured this was OK, the car has since been sold according to the MD 'as is' so possibly some poor sod is now driving around with this fault
To be honest their attitude sucks and the above comment confirms this.
