Very nice - don't forget to buy your feeler gauges too..... :D

I think a service for them used to be - Plugs, Points, Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, look around, couple of squirts of Duck Oil and voila.  You could just about chuck any oil in there too.  The Lucas Electrics could be a bit 'iffy' though... ;)

Glad to see you bought a proper one with the chrome bumpers :)

Looks very nice mate, and should put the smile on your face, right until you get to that first corner a little too fast and wonder who nicked the brakes ......

The electrics have hopefully been sorted, with electronic ignition etc...

But yeah, who nicked the brakes!!!! They are shocking!!! Will be sorted though, new discs and calipers for the front and rear drum overhaul kits, less than £300! And I'll enjoy doing it! Think I'll pay myself £140 an hour whilst I'm doing it and call myself a technician!

Reliable? Well, does anyone here reckon their x6 will see its 40th birthday?

That's not a wager I'll take.............even stored the electronics will never last that long!!

Come to think of it, I probably won't be around either.  And even if I am I wouldn't be allowed to drive it :)) :))

Back on thread topic:

The x6 seems to be behaving itself, so that's good but I have found damage to the rear bumper,  >:( where the exhaust pipes pop through, below each pipe the silver paint has been badly scratched, exposing the bare plastic!!!!

Question 1 to the wise, would they have had to remove the rear bumper to get at the rear diff? (Guessing the exhaust maybe in the way? Can the exhaust back box be removed with bumper in place?)

Question 2 to the wise, would they have had to remove the rear bumper to get at the transferbox?

If yes to either / both questions then the bumper in question has been handled by our faithful technicians...hopefully explaining the cause of the damage in question, if not then how can I prove it was them!!!!!

I would think the answer is possibly a yes to the first question (removal) as the exhausts have to be removed, but only a possibly to the second part of Q1.  They might have got away with not removing the bumper to remove the exhausts (they have to come off), but they will have had to be very careful!!

As far as Q2 goes, unlikely, but the exhaust and half the bottom of the car will have had to come off because of all the shields.

If you have a look at this thread over on Xoutpost from 2010 it is for an aftermarket exhause fitting and clearly shows all of the under car shields in Post #2, and some shots of the rear underside in post 1.

If they didn't remove the bumper then there is a very high likelihood that as the exhaust MUST come off  to change the rear diff system, they may well have damaged the car if suitable care wasn't taken.  If they are the only ones who worked on the car, then it's down to them to repair/replace etc.

Thanks for the reply..

I'm taking the car in at 3pm, so see what they say! I have had a towbar fitted by others, just hope they don't use that to wriggle out of it... I know they've done the damage but it's proving it!!!

Looks to me like they've dropped the exhaust off its rubber hangers and it's been resting on the bumpers paintwork but we'll see what's said!!! Those pics with the white cloths protecting the bumper will prove invaluable, once more I extend my sincere gratitude to you Richard!

It's booked in for repair middle of next week....

Thanks once more to X5_Sport...

Any time.  Just HTH.  I'm glad it worked out but disappointed they didn't pick up on it in the first place.  That kind of thing really should not happen.

I came across the piccies a while back when I wanted to know what the X6 looked like from below.......yeah geeky I know, but I'm an engineer and allowances must be made. .. :P :P :-[
