Cheers Richard I've been checking the settings on my phone and found a different setting for BT so will try this first. I've got a aftermarket kenwood headunit at home with BT and various other features that I could use but I don't want to lose the OBC features on the dash so would prefer to get the factory BT working.

If you have a look at REALOEM on line, put in the last 7 characters of you VIN into the 'serial Number' field, it will come back with your car version and parts list.

It's a case of looking at the communications section and for the BT module number, then working forward to the last version (of about 14 I think), noting the part number and go hunt for that on line.....

After much messing with the BT situation ive found my unit is a 2003 HW rev. 06 SW rev 38. So pretty old unit as they are at HW rev. 14 now and not sure which SW rev.
Went down the after-market route for a while, but couldn't get on with the look of it.

So that's out now and back to getting the factory BT working with my phone i can get it to pair, upload phone book and call lists it just making calls that it struggles with.
The main issue is the mic doesn't work was fine with my iphone 4s so not sure what the score is just one of the many frustrations with the X5, came very close to swapping it yesterday.

Hi guys.

Have just purchased my e53 x5 Le Mans. It's strange the car has bluetooth prep as far as I can see when I push the button under the armrest and turn the key it says bluetooth pairing. The only thing I find strange is that the car has a parrot ls3002 kit fitted. Is there any real advantage to using the parrot over the standard unit. Thanks

Thanks Sanj.
At the moment I've paired to both lol...... really strange I can answer incoming calls when I use the steering wheel buttons and it answers the parrot. If I selected a number from contacts list on the BMW it dials from the BMW. If I use the voice command on the parrot it dials the parrot. But they seem to compliment each other giving me voice command from parrot and steering wheel button control. I will see how it goes. Thanks again

Hi all

I have just bought my first x5, it's on a 52 plate and registered in January 2003.  It has the phone pairing symbol on the steering wheel and also a picture of a phone on the screen/stereo.  It doesn't have a pairing symbol on the centre console does this mean it doesn't have blue tooth connectivity?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like it should be there.  The steering wheel button is phone on/off hook.  The pairing button should be on the centre console, possibly in/under the armrest?

the only way it worked for me was hold down button and count to 3 turn key to pos 1 and continue to 6 then release .So from start to finish exactly 6 seconds works great on mine hope it helps .
I was having trouble pairing my Samsung S6 Edge to my E53 but followed these instructions and it paired first time straight away if anyone is still having trouble doing this

Spent an age trying to get mine to work. Bottom line...Samsung will allow a call to be placed and then lose connection with the car after four or five rings, wifes iPhone connected and a proper call and conversation could be had....hours wasted trying to get the Samsung to work....

FYI, if you don't have your bluetooth pass code in your manual,  it's in the boot on a sticker near the satnav unit.

My x5 bluetooth nav stereo working fine with iphone 6+
Only what I miss is streaming music from phone to my car which is not support in x5 bluetooth version.
So I ordered from ebay aux cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/322129003750 and bt 4 audio receiver http://www.ebay.com/itm/131946194493
I don't want buy any cheap android stereos to avoid loose control to car computer and webasto timer.

I too am getting the same "activate phone" message.

I haven't checked fuses etc yet, but can anyone confirm where the module is located? There are conflicting reports online, some say under the spare wheel and some say below the cd changer.

I do have a module of some sort sitting vertically below the cd changer, but without removing any trim to see it closer the connections on the end look more like fakra FM plugs.
