You will like it when you plug in your iPhone, that the album artwork will appear on the screen. Nice touch I think.
Ashame that AW8 will never know what we are talking about as he has only just moved on from his Nokia 6310 ...
Does it do that using the bluetooth connect or the cable?
Don't take the piss out of AW8, his phone is an antique and worth a small fortune!

Cable only I think. Not sure you can actually play music via BT as I have not bothered trying that. I plug it in anyway to charge the phone whilst in the car via the normal Apple lead in the USB connection.
Still have not spent the time to try the other iPhone apps on the car which allows you to find the car and continue the satnav route via the phone. Must find the time sometime ...

So I don't need to BMW special cable and can use just an iPhone cable?
In my old 535d I had to use the cable witha USB end and a jack plug which I bought from BMW.

Music will play via Bluetooth and via the standard Apple white cable. You will only get track info via Bluetooth, no album artwork (that only works via USB)? The BMW 'Y' cable ceased to be needed after October 2010 builds that had the Combox in them - came with Pro Nav if option chosen, otherwise it was the same old TCU until March 2011 when everything with nav + Bluetooth prep got it.
If you have ordered the full media system with BMW Apps and Smartphone integration then it will also play video via the multimedia snap-in adapter - yours for a cool £170 sir! Standard snap-in (£70) will connect the iPhone to the external aerial, charge it and run the phone/music via Bluetooth. iDrive will also play DVDs..
Nothing wrong with a 6310i...! Still got two chassis here...and chargers..the E46 has the snap in for it...

Er......right......well the simpler answer to your question is yes you can play music off an iPhone via Bluetooth, and no you don't need a special 'y' cable...

You've got the same as me then. Snap-in is much cheaper....
Unless of course BMW have changed the names again in which case you've got the lot, but simple answer still applies.

Just shove in a normal iPod cable and press play on the screen. Think you can understand that bit.
Next thing is that you can load CDs and it will copy them to your hard drive so you can use your internal hard drive as well for music storage. Hope I have not overloaded you now
You almost 50? Thought you were closer to 75 ...

Thanks
Would you suggest buying a cable or does the Bluetooth work without a problem?

Buy what cable? Any iPod / iPhone cable will charge and play the iPhone ...

As he says.....and it will charge it too. Bluetooth works most of the time without any problems. Occasionally the phone and car won't talk to each other, but that's easily sorted. Bluetooth even works with the iPhone in the house......for a short distance at least....

When I bought my 535d I had to buy a BMW cable that plugged into the iPod/iPhone but had a USB and a jack at the other end which plugged into the car to transfer music etc. and charge the phone.
That's the cable I'm referring to.
Have times moved on?

Yes, any normal cable works fine. Was from early '12 manufacturing, the sales guy did not even realise it had been changed until I just put the cable in and it all just worked.

Yes times have moved on, much faster than you by the sounds of things
I could play music via BT in the smart car!
Porsche can apparently too but I've just plugged in the normal apple white lead that they are referring to here
I know the cable you refer to for the 535, I have it in the X5!

Good to see the banter going strong
Secret compartment very handy indeed, have one in my Touring and it has gas struts too
Looks like mods will have to open up a sub-Porsche section for the 2 tarts above
@AW8 is it not time the Sussex boys ventured over this way
