The tech reappeared and of course, "......I'll just do a software reset....." ( disconnect the battery)

That didn't work, so hooked up the OBD and now it's got a canbus failure to the I-drive joystick!

"....you'll need to book it in, sir!...."

Tried to book it in with a courtesy car, "....6th June!...."

Is it just me? Why do they think I'll be happy to drive around for three weeks with the screen stuck on a blank display!

"...nothing we can do, sir!...." so it's in tomoro as a standby job and I'll have to fork out for a taxi to my workplace which will be about £30 each way! Suddenly it's not quite an all inclusive package is it!

I know the car is still technically working but c'mon....!

I have sold cars for less!

If you have BMW ES then they do everything. They will arrange for your car to be recovered, book it in to your local Dealer and arrange for you to be supplied with a car. They should also be recovering your repaired car to you and taking the hire car away again. Mine was still driveable, albeit using a GPS speed unit, but other than the instruments it all works. There are certain key safety function that need the idrive - oil level, TPMS, Check Control functions etc (all blank on mine & unavailable on yours!)

Get back on the phone to BMW Emergency Services and ask them why they are expecting you to do it? It is their job to sort this out for you. The hire car will be from Enterprise Car Rental and should be of 'suitable equivalency' to your X6. I don't have one as I can't drive for now so it will just sit here.

I don't see why you should be expected to sort it. The chances are their Mondial tech messed-up. BMW ES have done all the leg work on mine, I haven't had to do anything other than hand over the keys..

Go and create a fuss! I've even had Mondial out to change a tyre - at least the wife did on her car. No fuss, no argument, just sorted.

Just called BMW ES, they can get me a hire car tomoro for two days, which helps me out no end. So thanks for your comments, x5Sport hope they sort your car soon as, in the meantime, cheers buddy!

Glad to be able to help out. Your CANBus was fine beforehand so my nasty suspicious mind was merely 'suggesting' that it might have been their fault..

In other words - yes he might indeed have fecked up!! Chances are it's all connected and it will be summat stoopid that needs a clip round its electronic ears so to speak and plays nicely. These cars are getting scarily complex!!

So, the X6 is currently having its brain replaced and re-programmed.

They had found the I-Drive Controller is to blame and they are replacing it today and re-coding later today / tomorrow.

Glad, I made a pain of myself and got a Hire Car, I've been sent to Glasgow in the morning, so its 620 miles that will not be on the X6's Mileometer!!!

Shame they have only given me a 320 SE Saloon, but the MPG will be a bit better than the X6, and I'll still charge the customer 50ppm!!!!

Overall, I'm disappointed this has happened so early into my X6 Ownership, but at least (after being given a few pointers) I have recieved decent customer service....? (...hope i've not spoken too soon...)

Glad you're getting somewhere. They tried to blame my instrument failure on a flat battery. I have since had a 'deep & meaningful' with the Service Dept during which I explained (subtly) that they were talking bolox and there is no way the instruments would shut down at the first sign of battery trouble, they are now 'looking further into the problem' and will be talking again with BMW GB...

Can't say I'm overly impressed either given mine is only 18 months old. Like you I hope this is not a sign of things to come. If it is then I too may jump to The Dark Side (buy an Audi)! Not for a 'Q' car though - there are limits after all..

Been there with Audi, believe me, gimme BMW service any day....!

My Q7 was three weeks out of warranty, had a £1200 bill, Audi UK came back with £100 goodwill!

Dealer by dealer experience.

Audi bend over backwards for me to make sure everything ok

Loan cars have included new RS6, RS5, R8, a7......

Last thing it was in for I got 70% goodwill towards repair, over a year after manufacturer warranty expired.

Unfortunately my local Audi Dealer in Cambs is not reputed to be a good one. Their sales staff have a nasty habit of only talking to men, even if it was their wife that asked the questions. They completely ignore female partners. I had 'words' with them last time I was over there - albeit several years ago now - and told them their attitude had cost them any chance of a sale.

According to colleagues at work who have used them in the past, if you spend a lot of money with them then you may do better, but otherwise not! Probably why there are so few Audis in the car park..

I may need to look for an alternative supplier in the local area other than them or tother half is likely to give the Sales Manager an earful - which will probably be deserved..
I'm sure they can't all be that way.....can they?

I do not pay dealer prices for cars, brought the x6 for at least four grand less than any other xdrive40d that any BMW dealer nationwide had to offer!

Audi said "...as the car (q7) had left the dealer network (when i brought it privately) then there was nothing they could do...!"

At the moment BMW have delivered far better service on my old 325 (which was catd) and currently with the x6, both purchased privately...saying that, might walk straight into a huge bill tomoro afternoon....then I'll be editing this post and go looking at R8s with you pair! (discount for three?)

Prior to buying my X6 wifey and I popped into the local Mercedes dealer to have a closer look at an E Class coupe to see if there was enough room in the back for the youngster.

She sat in the drivers seat and commented that the brake pedal was very large at which the salesman looked down his nose at her and said that it was because the car was an automatic and all autos had larger brake pedals.

Had he looked out of the window he would have seen that we had arrived in a BMW 645 so it would have been a reasonable assumption that she had some knowledge of driving autos but I'm afraid that I don't buy cars from pretetentious dickheads so crossed the E Class coupe off my list as well as any other Mercedes.

I eventually bought my X6 from Sytners and although I was on my own when I went to see it wifey was with me when we went to pick it up and the salesman presented her with a bunch of flowers which I thought was a rather nice touch.

It's the small easy things that you remember and will maybe get you to open the wallet again!

Our local Audi dealer salesmen are total tw@ts, you'd think they had each won the lottery, and /or were doing our dream job! Sorry they couldn't afford my price to work weekends!

BMW seem a bit calmer, but are still very pleased with themselves...!

Still much prefer buying privately, just easier and a hell of a lot cheaper!!!!
