Well it was tested yesterday and it's fine, he said its a bit low but not uncommon on a BMW, and said with it been flat last week it still may not be 100%.

Well at least that's a positive result. Just have to keep an eye on it for a while.

Battery flat this morn

Post by scooby1doo1 » Sun Apr 08, 2012 11:06 am

Yep if it was battery then thats no prob, but if it was alternator I would have been with out a car. Had to work Saturday but finished at 14:00, so I could get it tested.

I have bought a jump starter just incase, ordered via the interweb and should be here Tuesday/Wednesday.

If you want a charger, then a CTEK would be the one to go for - preferably with the 8-stage cycle - as you can leave then in place when home to condition the battery overnight. I use one on our E46 as it isn't being used, so needs charging once a month.

Something like this one will do the job nicely. They come up on offers pretty frequently, and CTEK make the OEM Chargers - for a suitably BMW Premium!

Cheers X5Sport

But i don't see how this will be of use to me, unless my battery needs charging weekly.

cheers anyway.

You weren't sounding like a c********. :D :D  I hadn't taken it that way at all.

These are conditioner/chargers so can rejuvenate batteries. Good for leaving on a car not being used - when on holiday and left in the garage etc as an example.

Nope not funny for you but made me lol, we always get a taxi down to the airport.

Cost £60 for 40 mile round trip, but we do get dropped off at depart for that.

You might be as well to buy one of them jump starters then.

I once use to drive a Subaru, broke my leg and had to have 9 months off work. My leg was been held buy wire and a frame forget the medical name.

Any away as I could not drive for for 3 months, had a consultant sign to say I was fit to drive with this frame on, needed that for insurance.

The point been it was 5 weeks before I could Evan get out side to see if the car would start, and it did, turned over slow but started.

I dint lock the doors, alarm was off and so was the hand brake. (the pads lock on if hand brakes left on) So that would have helped.
Left in running for half an hr out side, then my nan use to drive me to the hospital every week in it.

First time she drove was a laugh, 70mph in a 40. Said nan slow down your doing 70, no I'm not says 50 their look.
I said that says 4 and it's 4 thousand revs your doing 70 that's the speed their nan. Well it not like my car is it.

70 yr old thrashing my Subaru.

Bored at work hence the long boring storey.

Brought this back because i still have the fault.

Was coming home from work sunday, got off the motorway and battery light comes on. Followed by every dash light that you get up on start up, followed by a bong trans fail safe mode.
Did not cut out but revs was very low, so i did the menu option thing for volts (no9) was 10.4 but this would move to 9.4-6 to 10.6. So im thinking now its the alternator and this was checked a few months ago, just waiting for BMW to open to ask how much, i do have AA warranty but shut bank hols.

It's probably a Valeo Unit. You can get a non-OE remanufactured unit for about £300. New from BMW then they're closer to £500-£600 I think. Lucas units are cheaper but no idea how good they are.

realOEM says 90 120 and 140A from $477 to $590 so that means £400-£600, don't mind buying a new gen one but not good been bank hols. Seem some DIYS, and looks a bit of a pain, BMW is 15 miles away. I can start the car but don't no how safe it would be to drive, if it cuts out I'm stuck. So looks like taking it down the road to get them to fix it tom.

Cheers
