With the PS3, you can use Tversity to stream media from a PC or mediaserver. Worth thinking about that, I installed that for my son who uses it to stream our HD content to the Pioneer plasma in the playroom.

HDMI cable still has to be good enough to be up to standard 1.3.

A lot of Xtreamer streaming HDMI issues with dropping sound and/or picture is due to low quality HDMI cable. However, as long as it reaches the standard it is not necessary to get £100 cables and £25 ones should be fine.

I only have VanDamme cables which I am very happy with. Very reliable for all the equipment I have.

No pics if our setup, but in the last couple of months I've finally taken the HD plunge ans chaned our old 37" Pano plasma for one of their new 50" 3D sets with a Sony 3D Blu-ray and a new Pioneer 3D pass through 9.1 amp (only using 7.1 with a 10 year old Bose Acoustimas 15 system plus two add on Bose 171 speakers). Works a treat. Saw the Pano 50" demo'd in Milton Keynes along with the Sony 46" 3D set and was sold on the Pano at once. I think Pano took the Pioneer Team on board when Pioneer stopped making their own. Just need some proper 3D media to become avail and we're away

I did buy a couple of what I thought were silly priced HDMI cables and then bought some of the Amazon Basics range. I honestly can't see any difference on either of the HD sets (SWMBO insisted we had a smaller Pano LCD one in the bedroom ). So I'm not paying £50 for a metre of signal wire again!! 3D needs HDMI 1.4a which are harder to find but you only need it between the source and TV so all the other cables only meet HDMI 1.3. like other here I was stunned how much more you could grt for the same money as my 37" cost 6 years ago - which now worth naff all!!

Evening Guys, just a small update. Popped into John Lewis this afternoon all ready to part with the OH's hard earned. After a long informative chat with the sales guy I have had my head turned towards a Panasonic Plasma a TX-P42G20B to be precise http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/P ... index.html and in the end came away without anything Clearly a few of you have Panasonic Plasmas, I would really appreciate a frank and honest review of your experience if you would be as kind

Firstly the wifi part and pics your PS3 is already capable of this and more so nothing required.

TV second hand Pioneer would be ace else if you want new Panasonic have taken there mantleplace although prob not as good IMHO.

Above 42 personally I would stick to a plasma.

Although I was originally looking for a 46" replacement for our Pannie Viera 37", I actually bought one of these:

I have to say were were both very taken with it's performance is SD, HD and 3D. Standard definition is really very good even on a screen this size. High Def in 1080/24P is absolutely stunning. I also have it connected wirelessly to our two DLNA Media streamers for iTunes and movies stored on the server and it works a treat, although getting the wireless system to log on on a perfectly good 802.11n signal is unreliable even though all our other devices log on instantly. Switching the access point to 802.11b/g/n mode solved the problem.

The only area where there is a slight criticism is sound, but it is very difficult to produce hard bass with a small cabinet depth. As ours is normally run through the Pioneer AV amp and speakers, it's not a problem. The 46" set is very good too, but I've only seen it in a shop and not 'in anger' so to speak.

Even though this 50" set is some 13" bigger than our old 37" Viera, the whole thing is about 3" wider and nearly 10kgs lighter.

It also cost less than the 37" did 6 years ago! All in all I am very impressed. Give it a good Freeview or Freesat signal and it performs very well. Switch to a good HD source and it really shines. Can't wait for some 3D media other than than Monsters & Aliens to come out too.

Hi all, just thought I would update you all. Did in the end go for the Panasonic 40" discussed above and have to say I am over the moon with it SD is fantastice and very life like in HD it is stunning. Have it linked to a Sony AV amp and my PS3 and have sourced a non Panasonis dongle for wireless connection. I also purchase a Pure Sensia DAB radio for the kitchen and via that web site downloaded its Flow Servere to stream iTunes,pics and 000's of radio stations from my lap top. A big bonus of this is that the PS3 links with this as well and now have all my pics available through the TV, well chuffed to say the least.

You have made a good choice there Chompers. I have the 50" Pano Plasma in my bedroom with a Pano Cinema System and Sky HD... early nights and a DVD are great! Really pleased with the Plasma quality and have no desire to upgrade at any time soon.

I do need to get a new TV for the front room though, not quite as big... anyone got an LED TV or heard reports about them?

As I said on page 1 of thread I've got a 46inch Samsung LED and consider the picture quality to be outstanding. Personal preferences apply but I'd go for an LED over a plasma these days (though not previously). Lots of makes to choose from do great LEDs these days - go see which you like!

I did get one of those Sony CRT televisions. It is not the size so much as the weight, and it is so awkward to move, safely requires 3 man power to lift and shift.
Have a Panny as well now and Sony relegated to the Dining Room.

I'm a plasma fan, I had my pioneer 50 in the lounge and a LCD for gaming in my computer room but when I upgraded the lounge I moved the plasma up stairs, since then it's been used 70% of the time for gaming with the dreaded screen burn making no impact, even with extended red dead redemption sessions last week
