thanks for this excellent write up i have just changed my airfilter and breather i dont think i have ever come across such a hard to replace service item as this air filter what a struggle to get the screw from the back of the airfilter box and putting it back, i have fitted a pipercross filter so hopefully i can leave it alone for a bit,thanks again guys

Great writeup,
I did my first service (Oil,filters, breather) on my '03 X5 sport on Sunday, this was a very handy reference....

Really glad its been of use. Ive even seen it posted on xoutpost which makes me smile. Could somebody do one for a rear wheel bearing ...... one for the shop me thinks

Can someone post part numbers for the breather for a facelift x5. I know there is a separate thread but it would be really helpful being included here... Especially while I'm at work and on my iphone

Excellent article - many thanks! Used it to change the air filter on my 2005 E53 3.0D today. Followed these instructions step by step - and no problems at all. Even the bolt at the very back came out/went in without problem. Also changed the breather assembly using Bazzyboys article. So - an afternoon well spent and hopefully the X is feeling better cared for now.....
