That must be a relief, even if it was unwanted expense right now. :)

Thanks..... Indeed it is a relief this is sorted now :)

Timing not brilliant as prior said.....Some funds going back to me albeit as result of pending refund from a breaker who supplied the wrong sump for the Z3
This has also cured the problem I spoke of a while ago whereby I couldn't seem to control the nav volume, (from main or hidden menus), which on old unit seemed to have a random will of it's own
Damn, I have a similar prob...

Must resist!

Glad all sorted and at a 'reasonable' price.

Resist, resist, resist!

hi,
I have an issue with my BM54 module, on my 2003 320d e46.
Contrary to standard amplifier issue, weel known on BM54, 80% of the time my BM54 doesn't turn on at all (NO ORANGE LIGHT), and even when it turns on (sometimes, but not very often), I now have no sound at all from speakers.
I tried contact cleaner, but it doesn't changed anything.
I tried another BM54 module and it works perfectly, so I'm sure the issue is my BM54.

Note : when I plug the bmw OBD DIS v53 (with cheap china cable), it tells me :
Radio "No Communication possible"
Supply, K bus, stereo B6512_00011"

What's the issue according to you ? Power supply or the standard amplifier issue ?
Repair is possible ? (I'm not electronician but to save 800 euros, I can learn ...)

Thank you very much (and sorry for english)

I do not have OBD DIS I only have Peake Code reader which I belive will NOT read bus codes.

The repaier I used on ebay in UK said my masterchip has damaged beyond economical repair........I then asked him to supply me with a reconditioned unit which he did. The new unit is fine & is working ok.

Sorry I cant help further..

Your English is better than that of many people in England :)

Good Luck

oki ! Thanks for your answer ;)
I'm trying to find something on different forums, somebody on bmwland.co.uk is telling me to resolder something but currently I don't know exactly why (and I'm not really used to solder that sort of little things).
I make a return there if I found a solution :) :)

I have read that the solder joints on BM24 units dry out and fail. I have also read someone advising to place same in oven to sort this. Personally I wouldn't do this on any module. If really skilled with a fine soldering iron then those so experienced may wish to have a play..............personally I wouldn't advise this & would pass it to someone competent & experiencded at fixing it rather than paying nearly twice the price for a recon or used other in event of damage.

Good Luck whatever you decide on doing.

I just stripped my unit and resoldered all the joints as mine kept losing sound... its a very simple job.. If your local to me I will do it for you... where are you?

As baldguy says its a very simple job it took me around 15 mins to reflow the solder, once the solder was cooled down replaced the unit back in the car. So far have driven around 500 miles and no loss of sound, really happy with this saved me loads of money replacing the unit.

i have the same problem, my unit just doesn't turn on, the sat nav/tv screen is working and also the phone screen etc, but no radio, so if i took it apart to check the dry joints in the board first? is anybody in east sussex that knows what they are doing that could possibly help? Is the unit under the boot floor or am i looking at a new sat nav unit?

Also where is the light check module located on my 2003 4.4 sport?

I am in West Sussex..........

Like many others I know where the module is & how to remove it.

I did not feel comfortable or want the hassle of attempting to check/fix dry joints.

The main chip on mine was allegedly fried/damaged beyond repair so mine was unrepairable & exchanged.

You refer to the possibility of needingt a new satnav unit, however, the radio module is seperate to this.

Be honest with yourself as to what you are capable of doing.

If no orange light I would start by checking connectivity/fuses before assuming a neeed to repair.

If fuses/connections found to be good then you can look at removal of the unit, however, if no orange light you should consider there is a possibility that the chip is damaged and the unit might be damaged beyond economical repair.

I suggest light control module chat best kept to your other thread & so as to avoid confusion ;)
