so six plugs is £90 (for the labour involved don't do some of them do them all), and the controller from ECP was about £80.
I think, but I might be making it up, the labour was a bit over £200.

Colin,...just to let you know that I was having your problems too only a month or so ago,... I changed all 6 of my "faulty" glow plugs only to have them tested once the new ones were installed and every one was perfect condition !!! It was when I heard about the controller/ module/(whatever its called) could be faulty I took off the plugs leads one at a time and took the readings with a multi-meter during the supposed 'pre-heat' period. The readings were all over the place with at least 3 reading zero !! I changed the module with a wee bit wiggling of wires and hoses from under the inlet manifold and now it starts first time AND without the wee puff of white smoke from the exhausts on start-up. (un-burnt diesel) I did change the battery a week before hand to 900 cold crank Exide battery too..... incredible differance from the old woaw.....woaw.....woaw... woaw...woaw....woaw.... woaw.......woaw...... lol
Hope this helps on your way..

Well been so busy not got round to sorting this.
Had the battery tested today, making an unhealthy 384CCA.
Had alternator tested and making a healthy charge rate with pretty much no reduction under maximum load.
New battery next week should undoubtedly sort it.
