Nope, standard UK factory order. Was it a salesman who told you that? I thought they knew everything [emoji6]

Yep, since week 31 (about first of August) this iDrive is now standard - much better than the previous but will take some getting used to having had the old one for some years (and I'm waaaayyyy too old to change that easily  :)) )

I'm told the next X5 will also have gesture control as the current 7 series has.

I wonder how that will cope with the gestures used with Audi drivers..... O:-)

All lovely, couple more observations......

The speed limit display is just a little too far over to the left - I have posted on a thread from March and understand this can be rectified using ISTA (whatever that is?)

However rather disapointingly my son pointed out the top of the iDrive button was peeling yesterday. It appears it's only stuck in place and I'm sure just a quick fix. I've already sent an email to the dealer making them aware  :(

Other than that, it's lovely.

I like the way the dash is white during the day and red at night, my M5 was always white and personally I prefer red at night.

Ive also noticed the HUD changes colour at night and goes from white to orange which didn't happen on my F10, BMW are clearly constantly tweaking these things and it's an improvement.

Setting up BMW remote was a doddle and my iPhone talks to my car as it should.

The new iDrive will take some getting used to. The commands are all there (and much more), the quality of the maps and the processing speed are clearly much faster and better but it's knowing where to find thingsn the various sub menus. There are also now videos and all sorts of information available if you wish to delve into the system.

It appears on the 50d you can configure the sport button to adjust transmission and suspension or simply either. Is this also available on the 40d etc.? I can't find any information about it in the manual and whilst I can see what I'm doing, I don't know the fine detail which I'd like to - does anyone know?

There's also a new USB port under the heater controls which makes life's easier rather than digging around in the glove box.

It can be coded by ISTA I had to code mine as it was to the left of the HUD rather than central.

Thanks fellas  ;)

One function I'm happy with is the dash is lit white during the day much the same as my M5 was.

My wife's new X3 doesn't have a lit dash during the day and I understand the 30d and 40d are the same however can be coded so I read and I wasn't sure what to expect.

Anyway, any excuse to have a drive and I'm off to Tesco now for a sugar cube  :)

Lovely car! It looks awesome.  Congratulations.

My 30d (65 plate - Oct 15) doesn't have the dials lit during the day  :(  which is a shame as I would like that.  I'll have to investigate coding in more detail at some point but not sure if there is any risk with regards to warranty etc.

Had a drive into London today so managed a few hours behind the wheel.

Lovely, lovely car and far more relaxed than my M5 to drive. That said when you hit the go button it certainly picks up very well and amazingly right up to the red line and it just doesn't run out of puff.

I had to press on a bit coming back and it did surprise me how quickly the numbers increase in the HUD and there's definitely no shortage of grunt from that treble turbo engine  8)

The new nav is bloody brilliant. A massive if not huge leap forwards against the old iDrive. The system is quicker, more fluid and has a host of features I've not seen before. It just feels like an iPhone 7 against the 5 for example.

For example whilst on route the images zooms in and out automatically Giving you an overview when you need it and then a close up of the junction or roundabout etc. as you approach. It also have little icons showing the name of the road you're turning into and is generally a lot clearer.

Image

One minor point is you now have to go back into the menu to end guidance however on the recent iDrives you simply hit the iDrive button which gives a few options on screen of which one is to end guidance - of course I could be missing something as it seems like a step backwards  :P

The touchscreen is also really easy to use and performs well with pinch zoom in and out etc. that we are all getting used to with our mobile phones.

Again, the ACC is amazing and it encourages you to drive at the speed limit and it performs brilliantly.

The speed limit icon can be confused when driving on a dual carriageway and there are 30 limits on road off the DC. It sees those and then suggests the limit has changed when it hasn't - hardly a third world problem but worth noting it's not always correct!

So, 233 miles in on day three and it's going well so far  :)

The iDrive is best in class, even the Audi and F-Pace (when it works!) reviews say that. But this update looks awesome.

Been somewhat busy with long/unsociable hours so only just caught up fully here.

Glad you like the new car & enjoying the modern toys with it  :)

Stay away from Hail storms !

I can't agree more, the iDrive was mocked in its infancy by many journo's yet has been copied and still leads the field.

Hi matey.

Thanks and we'll have to meet with the other two layabouts to chew the fat a bit one evening.

The car is a work of art and the engine just pulls and pulls - the M5 is in a different league (as was confirmed by a speed gun pointing at me earlier this year  O:-) ) but I'll not be lacking a bit of overtaking performance when I need it that's for sure.

Toys are great, not sure I've seen an anti-hailstorm menu within the iDrive but if BMW can do it I'm sure it's there somewhere  :))

Sorry to hear you're still working very long hours, Not sure what the answer is (aside from one I can't post!)
