That's super Mark  8)

I had searched that other "Quality Site" but didn't turn up that thread.

Another wee job added to my "Saturday Garage List"  ;)

I took the power from fuse 41 and 42 (if I recall correctly) under the drivers side panel. Very simple and much easier than my 1 and 3 series installs.

Is there an idiots guide to wiring a dashcam up, not sure on process?
[/quote]

Found it - was on another quality site:

http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/showth ... ht=dashcam

These are the fuse slots I've used - works a treat. The only thing I did differently is fed the cables behind the airbag at the top of the pillar, just in case ever deployed there is no chance of fouling that way.

Good luck, happy to help if you get stuck.

Many thanks Mark

Hi

The results on the ceramic coating are very impressive and you can certainly see the difference between the two sets of pics, definitely worthwhile getting it done.

Can Iask where was the company is located that did the ceramic coating?  as I'm looking at getting my E70 done as I'm based in Hertfordshire.

Cheers
Graeme

Hi Graeme

I use a guy local to me in Farnborough, Hants - perhaps a little far for you?

He actually does this in his spare time as he's looking to start a new business in detailing.

That's looks pretty impressive.

I'm really careful when I clean, two buckets etc. and my M5 was still brilliant after three years but it had polish or detailing.

Does the ceramic coat make that much difference or is it a good solution if you're a careless car washer?

MarkG, thanks for the comprehensive write up, it's much appreciated.
You mentioned that you would change into non-run flats when The existing tyres wear out, I also had the same idea but I think I may have read that this may invalidate your warranty? ........I'm not sure if anyone can confirm or contradict that?
Also you mentioned that the X5 was the most stolen car in the UK, this is something I've never heard of before, do you know where I'd be able to get more info on this? EG How many cars have been stolen and the method used when they were stolen?

Cheers,

The X5 has been at the top of the list for some time:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/pic ... l?image=11

Thatcham may have further details however I imagine house break ins with stolen keys is the main approach, followed by the OBD port being used to program a new key. This can be prevented with something like the Autowatch Ghost.

In terms of switching to regular tyres, here is no way it invalidates warranty - I switched my 335 to Michelin PSS tyres - this is a safe bet since BMW use these tyres themselves on all M cars.

Thanks for the response Mark, good to hear that the run flats do not affect the warranty as my winter tyres are non run flats, I'm quite looking forward to getting them onto the car as they made a huge difference to the ride when I had my E70, though the winter tyres are on 19" rims as opposed to the 20" rims on my summer tyres.

Actually that article is a bit misleading - its a list of cars that are fitted with trackers. I also found this:
The top 10 stolen cars

(Theft rate per 1,000 vehicles on the road)

Audi S3: 8.6
Land Rover Defender: 5.8
Land Rover Range Rover: 3.8
Audi Q7: 3.7
Ford Escort: 3.6
BMW X5: 3.1
Audi A5: 3.1
Mitsubishi Shogun: 2.4
BMW 5 Series: 2.4
Toyota Hilux: 2.4

It'll be allright in the end. If it isn't allright it isn't the end
