It is genuine. I actually bought the BMW towbar bike rack from the owners wife. Her husband died and she was trading it in against a Corsa.
Private plate was on it R15RGH.
The build date under the bonnet said August 2006

OK, so took the test drive today.

To be honest, I wasn't sold on it. However I'm sure that could be just as much to do with that model. It was the 2.0d Sport. I think I'm going to try and test a 3.0 SE.

This one was OK. But to be honest, for just 55K, it seem pretty tired inside. Looked very worn. I fully accept theres going to be some where and tear for an almost 10 year old car, but I'm sure I'll be able to find better.

Ride position/height I really like, and it seems a comfortable cab. The offset pedals would take some getting used to. The ride was very firm. Gearbox wasn't too smooth, and the 2.0 felt underpowered. All in all I just didn't get a good feeling from it.

As a side, on the way home I popped into a local car 'supermarket' and took a 12' 2.0d for a spin. Probably wasn't a good idea as it felt a LOT better, but is still probably out of my price range. Just wanted to see though. :)

That doesn't sound good. My mates '05 still feels and looks like new and that has 85k and he has 2 kids.
None of mine appear to be in a worn condition.

The BMW manual gets better when you are used to it. It feels a bit notchy at first but is pretty good.
I had my old 2.0d remapped to 175bhp and it did make it smoother.

Testing the new one is not a fair comparison. I was tempted to test drive a high mileage (110k) 2011 2.0d new shape but didn't want to get a high mileage car so didn't bother.

This one appears to be in your area (if the one I think you viewed is near)

Yea, just didn't seem right. It also had a grey interior which would always be difficult to keep clean. It's little things like the trim surrounding the electric windows controls was very worn. Just not great.

I didn't really test drive the newer one as a comparison. There still a possibility I could push the budget up to 15k. So I just wanted to see if the extra would be worth it.

I've seen that 3.0se listed. Might try and have a look at it Sunday. From pics it looks pretty nice.
