If your 535 is not awd then the slight torque excess should only result in tyre smoke. But then doesn't BMW use the same gearbox in the X5M?

NEWS ALERT: And now for something completely different, back to the story about my RaceChip.
The company has been very supportive and sent me a total of three units to try. The car stubbornly refuses to run right with a RaceChip in, no matter how I set it. Their English-language tech support is very good, and their attitude is customer first.
The latest news is that they now suspect that I installed the confounded harness in the wrong spot. That would mean that BMW uses the same exact plug in two spots. Oh dear. They are sending me a diagram of exactly where I should plug in their patch harness. More news as it develops.
I am eagerly anticipating an extra 75hp, even though snow is forecast for tomorrow and I just put on the Nokians yesterday. :'( I miss the Uniroyals already. But winter tyres are a sad necessity in Alsace. :noexpression:

Surely it would throw a fault code or engine management light if you plugged something in series with another engine or sensor circuit .
I thought they were fitted in series with the common rail.

SUCCESS.
Plugging their T harness into the correct plug did the trick. The car has more power indeed. It should be, on paper at least, a match for an X5M. I have not yet planted my right foot fully from stop for a timed retest, but 135mph came up quickly indeed yesterday on a shopping run to Weil Am Rhein. The increased thrust is no illusion.
Because I've also changed tyres and air filter, I'll have to do another baseline test in order to get a meaningful comparison. That means getting out onto my favorite deserted test road some night when it's not rainy.
