That's the 'Traffic Master' button - except it looks like his knob has come off!
It was big in 2002/3 - I had it on my 2003 E53.
If you press it you get a pretty awful blue screen and type that looks like something from teletext.
No idea if it can be upgraded.
I'd definitely hide it with a bit of replacement trim rather than trying to take it all out.

This works for me although I think my overall favourite is the Range Rover, Ivory with piano black.

Here is my X6M with piano black , I really like it but I'm bored of black leather , will have it trimmed in red if I'm going to keep the car long term

Still being manufactured, but my new precious is coming with Mocha Nevada + Finline Anthracite as per the marketing shot below... Can't wait to see it in the flesh!

My X....in Man Pink and Beige (Comfort Seats of course).

Had my X6 re trimmed in poppy red and black

For me it's the Oyster/black with bamboo wood. Had it on the 5 series.

Was trimmed by a firm in Denton near Stockport.
At the same time they were trimming an X6 for a famous footballer who plays for Aston Villa plays as a striker.
Cost was approx £2K and they had the car for about a week. That included all the door cards seats steering wheel. They did a fantastic job I am away at present but will
Dig out the receipt when I get home if you cannot find them on the web.
