That's the 'Traffic Master' button - except it looks like his knob has come off!
It was big in 2002/3 - I had it on my 2003 E53.
If you press it you get a pretty awful blue screen and type that looks like something from teletext.
No idea if it can be upgraded.
I'd definitely hide it with a bit of replacement trim rather than trying to take it all out.

This works for me although I think my overall favourite is the Range Rover, Ivory with piano black.

Still being manufactured, but my new precious is coming with Mocha Nevada + Finline Anthracite as per the marketing shot below... Can't wait to see it in the flesh!

Hi
Was trimmed by a firm in Denton near Stockport.
At the same time they were trimming an X6 for a famous footballer who plays for Aston Villa plays as a striker.
Cost was approx £2K and they had the car for about a week. That included all the door cards seats steering wheel. They did a fantastic job I am away at present but will
Dig out the receipt when I get home if you cannot find them on the web.
