Hi folks,
I'm wondering if I should have ordered surround view for my new x5 due in the summer. Trawling the net, I have read conflicting opinions as to its usefulness. Some people say it's brilliant, whilst others say they hardly use it.
My main reason for getting it would be to avoid hitting the curb whilst parallel parking. Can anyone on here advise if it really is useful, or for instance, does it sometimes not 'see' the curb.
Connected with this, I have ordered the folding/auto-dimming side mirrors. I am wondering whether these also swivel downwards upon reversing in order to show the curb; I know that this is the case with some other car makes.
I do have the rear view camera specified, but I'm not sure how much this will help me not to hit the kerb.
Any thoughts appreciated as I may still be able to add the surround view option if the order has not already been locked down.
Cheers...

you already have surround view unless you specified one without windows and mirrors

I have it, and quite like it. It wouldn't be the end of the world not to have it though as the reversing camera is also pretty useful and you see more close up detail on it. I find the birds eye view a bit too far away.
This is my first car with cameras instead of just sensors and after 5 months I find i still tend to park mainly on the strength of what I can see out the rear view and in the mirrors.
Incidentally, It's only the passenger side mirror that dips when you reverse and you can turn that feature off if you don't want it.

I have it in the E70 and find it makes parking (especially between white lines) much easier. Would definitely spec it again.

Same here - probably the most useful option on the car and top of our "must haves" if/when we trade up.

I use it all the time on the X6. Handy to see where white lines are.

It shows the curb. BMW drivers know how to drive cars, we don't need no steeeenking parallel parking gizmo..... >:D. I mean it's not as if a Focus is big is it?
And as we own the damned roads, we can park where we damned well like O:-)

exactly thats why we can use whatever lane takes our fancy and we dont need to indicate to tell other inferior road users where were going!

Who needs assistance to park! The only assistance that's normally required on the BMW is the apoplectic fit we have when we see a bill

It's a nice to have though not as good as it might be since, even on the 10" screen in the X5, the top view display doesn't really fit well and is small and difficult to see from the drivers seat.

I love it. Has helped hugely in Car Parks and various unfamiliar environments. Also the darling wife would have dented it by now without it...

Its a YES from me...............
I have it in the E70 and it is very handy. You can even see the front tyres poking out the wheel arches when you turn the wheel , so very accurate .
I also have the front cameras........BMW were doing a deal at the time. I wouldn't bother with those. Used them twice just to play.
Regards
