Congrats but can you explain
Different licence required for a big chopper?
[/quote]
It's to do with how many passengers the helicopter can carry. In the case of light helicopters they are classed as Single Pilot and can carry up to nine passengers. Medium helicopters such as the AW139 can be certified as either Single Pilot or Multi Pilot. Say a VIP rolled aircraft would be cleared Single Pilot, but if used offshore, and carrying 15 passengers, then it's a Multi Pilot aircraft. Then once you get into the heavy lift helicopters, they are all multi crew, even if used in a VIP role.
So to answer the question, to fly Single Pilot requires a Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL) to fly a multi crew helicopter requires an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). So I have had to do the ATPL exams as well as an instrument Rating, also required to fly multi Crew aircraft on the North Sea.
Clear as mud.

Well, after eight months of study, 15 exams and a two week flying course, I have been offered a job that takes me from this.
To this.
There is of course a downside and that's Aberdeen! Only joking, from what I've been told its a very good place to live.
So for you current Aberdeen'ers, watch out as my Fire Breathing X6 will be gracing your streets in the near future.
In the meantime, I have a couple of months notice to work and a list as long as my arm of jobs to be completed before starting the conversion course in June. Happy days ahead.

Congratulations on your success and now you'll get more snow up north and so more use out of your winter tyres, but will you really need them with the pic of your new ride above?
I assume you get to take it home to use in the evenings and weekends? Hope their paying the fuel bill )
